My husband and I just spent our honeymoon at Montpelier and are determined to return soon. Our main reasons for chosing Nevis and Montpelier were the recommendations for excellent service, gourmet food, and privacy. We were not disappointed. We had a chance to try the island's own bread fruit and a scrumptious dessert with a passion fruit coulis. The Chef made every effort to please the guests, never once was a dish repeated in 7 days!

We also had the opportunity to meet the Chef(s) and were thrilled with their passion and dedication to serving only the best and most creative foods. Color, texture, flavor and presentation were always well-balanced and fun. The Inn's restaurant also has a wine list that can compete with most European restaurants (I don't know how they manage to keep such a diverse and unique list on this tiny island paradise).

The owners and staff make every effort to provide you with a feeling of luxurious-living with a true friendliness that speaks of "at home" atmosphere. When we needed a driver to take us around the island he appeared, when we wanted a drink by the pool or afternoon tea it appeared, they even went up and beyond to make sure we had aloe for a bit of a sun burn!

Try the picnic on the Inn's private beach you will find yummy snacks and likely only two other people sharing the sand and surf. We never had more than two or four other hotel guests joining us.

The pool is amazing, if you have never enjoyed a fresh water pool give this a go, no red eyes and crystal clear swimming!

The rooms are designed to be private cabins and we were lucky to try the plantation rooms which have new waterfall showers and Hemmingway-esk interiors.

Keep an eye out for fun criters like the famous labrador duo. Can't wait to go back!

My wife and I recently returned from our weeklong honeymoon at Montpelier. Our stay was perfect in virtually every way.

It bears mentioning that Nevis in general is not an appropriate setting for an action-packed vacation, a place to drag small children, or those who are looking for non-stop stimulation or sightseeing. The island is, however, PERFECT for those seeking tranquility, privacy and quiet in an impossibly gorgeous and unspoiled setting. And nowhere on Nevis better embodies this atmosphere than Montpelier.

The grounds are spectacular. The entire setting is imbued with a sense of restrained taste and class, particularly the gorgeous Great House and the lovely pool. The guest cottages are similarly beautiful. The simple and comfortable rooms are extremely private; the guest is given the feeling that they have the entire island to themselves. (Of note: our cottage had the updated bathroom that the owners are putting into each room. The new bathrooms display a level of luxury and quality befitting the elegant surroundings). The breezes at Montpelier’s elevation keep the surroundings cool and relaxing. Montpelier by the Sea, the Inn’s private beach, is similarly exceedingly private (we were usually joined by, at most, 2 other guests). A feeling of peace and quiet pervades the Inn at all times.

This sense is further enhanced by the impeccable and unobtrusive service. The Inn’s ample staff attends to a guest’s every need, from a cool glass of water and lime by poolside, to wonderfully fresh fruit in the room each morning, without being overly omnipresent or fawning. The Inn’s owners, the Hoffmans do their part to set a tone of relaxed elegance, more akin to spending a week at a friend’s country house than a hotel (a far cry from the more corporate atmosphere at the nearby Four Seasons). The concierge service at reception deserves special kudos for their assistance in making our stay so special.

Finally, even if you elect not to stay at Montpelier, make sure you dine at the Inn’s spectacular restaurant. The foods is fresh, delicious and prepared with tremendous skill and flair, whether at dinner, or the enourmous cooked breakfast each morning, Even our picnic lunch was of the highest possible quality. Easily the best dining on the island, and not to be missed.

“Fabulous 25th Wedding Anniversary Trip”

My wife and I recently stayed at the Montpelier Plantation Inn for the celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. She always likes to do things like cruises or beach resorts, whereas I usually prefer the types of vacations where there is history, golfing, hiking, that sort of thing. Initially I was pushing to go to Rhode Island and stay at one of our favorite B&Bs there, but she talked me into springing the extra money and going to Nevis. When we got there, I was pleasantly surprised. The place was absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms were to die for. Clean, crisp, and lacking televisions and children. Perfect. The staff was efficient and friendly, and gave us drinks and a tour of the property our first day. By the end of the first day everyone was on a first name basis, and that was amazing. These people have hundreds of guests come through a month, I am sure, and they made us feel like we were the most important people there. We enjoyed a lot of the things the inn had to offer, including massages in our rooms, a fantastic breakfast daily which was enough food to last us until suppertime, and the pool area was always a treat, and never crowded, and of course I golfed and enjoyed the wonderful people, history, and culture on the Island. I am not really a beach person, but the private beach they have was great. We ate at the resort all 5 nights, because I was so impressed after the first dinner there that I didn’t want to risk going elsewhere and being disappointed. We did venture out for lunch at a nearby restaurant two of the days, and the food was good, but couldn’t hold a candle to the gourmet meals we enjoyed nightly. Overall, the staff, the grounds, the food, the ambiance, the rooms, the pool, the beach, and every single other aspect of the resort was top notch in my book, and I am very thankful my wife found a place where both of us could enjoy things we loved doing on such a special occasion. My wife has already stated she wants to spend our 50th anniversary there as well, but I am certain we will not be waiting another 25 years to return to this dynamite destination.

“Fantastic Honeymoon Experience”

Montpelier Plantation Inn

4 May 2007

After much deliberation and research, my new husband and I decided to spend our honeymoon at the Montpelier Plantation Inn, and I must say we couldn't have chosen a better destination!

The room was exquisite, and the staff was very friendly without being aggressive. We started each day out with a wonderful English style breakfast, and then it was off to the daily activities.

We chose the package with the horseback ride along the beach and around the island, and it was very romantic. The private beach at the resort was beautiful and secluded, and the snorkeling was amazing. We enjoyed a private picnic on the beach with all of the food and wine provided. What a treat!

The island is gorgeous, and we chose to do a leisurely hike through the rainforest. The botanical gardens were full of lush beautiful plants and flowers (which made for wonderful pictures). My husband played golf one day while I enjoyed a massage and he said the course was fantastic, and he could see the ruins and the sea and he had a great time.

Dinner each night was amazing. The different dining areas gave you a variety of options for different settings, (our favorite was the Mill Restaurant) and the menus had a wide selection so even though you were dining in the same general area, you didn't feel limited. And the food was spectacular.

We could not have chosen a better place to start our new lives together, and we will be going back every opportunity we get. Kudos to the resort for making my honeymoon the most memorable and romantic experience anyone could ask for.

“Disappointing Dinner Guests”

Montpelier Plantation Inn

After reading rave reviews about the Montpelier Plantation Inn we made it a priority to have dinner there on our recent trip to Nevis while visiting friends. Reservations were made weeks ahead to ensure we were able to dine in the Sugar Mill (the reason we wanted to visit).

The Inn is beautifully appointed with gorgeous furniture and two adorable and well-behaved dogs. Cocktail hour was nicely done as well.

The problem started when we were about to be led to our seats....in the opposite direction of the Sugar Mill. When asked, our waitress said that we were to be seated on the terrace, not in the Mill. After much back and forth we were comped our wine, but still left disappointed that our reservation was not honored. As it turned out a larger party was seated in the Mill (7), but management clearly did not thing a party of 4 could also fit, even though it sits 12.

The terrace was okay, but didn't have the abience that I had hoped for. It was our final night, and a treat to our hosts, so we did not want to leave after realizing we could not be seated according to our reservation.

To add to the disappointment, later in the night one of our party got sick to his stomach and was up all night with food poisoning symptoms. Since this was our only meal out for the day, we can only guess that it was something from dinner.

In all a disappointing and expensive visit. We would go back for drinks, but dine elsewhere.
