I had heard that Double Deuce was a great place to go for a drink and a meal...so I went...with two other people. A 3 top table...no big deal right? Except it was a big deal...we arrived around 8pm and there were 3 other tables with patrons in a restaurant that looked rather dead. We sat ourselves, as there was no other option, in a corner hoping to enjoy a nice conversation to go along with our meal...only to find out that we had arrived on karaoke night...although it hadn't actually started yet. The restaurant host arrived at our table to take a drink order and promptly informed us that he WOULD NOT be able to even take our order for another 20 minutes as they were busy....hmmmmm....first time I've ever been told that.
Even then, we opted to enjoy a drink and have a look at the evening's specials board to check out the menu. I was quite shocked actually to see some of the prices on the menu. Even a basic fish dish was really pricey...like big city pricey...so I assumed it was going to be quite delicious as all of us hopeful travellers do! *Sigh*...I wish it could have been like that. But itt went like this...we ordered our food and were informed that they were "OUT" of rice....although it was still advertised on the specials board that they were not. Two rounds of drinks later we were digging into our very small portions when the karaoke started up. Some other restaurant patrons were having fun singing, which was ok, and then it all went downhill from there. The restaurant owner's wife grabbed the mic and not only was it WAY TOO LOUD it was WAY TOO OFF KEY TO BE THAT LOUD. Listen...I'm all for having fun and people singing but I just paid primo bucks for a tiny portion of food and was now sitting in an atmosphere where I had to shout to the person sitting right next to me just to be heard. Not cool...not cool at all.
So here is my recommendation...while the food was o.k at best, I would suggest that it's a great place to have a late night drink...not an evening where you would like the privilege of an actual exchange of words while feeling like you are being valued.
