My husband and I just returned from our annual "leave the kids behind for a week" vacation at the Four Seasons. This was our third trip (the others 5 and 11 years ago). We are very sad to say the hotel has lost some of its spark. We have been HUGE fans of the Four Seasons, and especially Nevis until this trip.
As much as we love our own kids, this is our once a year trip, and the resort has become a kid fest. We were one of the few people there without kids. The beach is crowed with kids from babies to teens, kid activites, kid equipment, etc. It's loud and I felt like I was on a beach at home.
TO THE RESORT'S CREDIT, they have created an "adult only" pool at the far end, which was FABULOUS. Had it not been for this pool, called the "reflection pool", we would not have been happy at all. The service at the reflection pool was spectacular (and we are VERY picky on beach service)! They had our chairs set up every morning (and reserve them for you for the entire length of your stay), and came around more frequently than any resort I've experienced, and we've been to quite a number of the Caribbean's best. That was the best part of the whole trip. If you are going as a couple, I highly recommend that you request a room near the Reflection Pool and NOT the other end of the beach.
The rooms are still nice, but as some reviewers noted, the bathrooms are getting a bit outdated (single showers, single bathtubs). Maid and turndown service was prompt and very good. That said my husband had a watch and t-shirt disappear. I'm hoping they got swept up in towels and weren't deliberately stolen.
The food and restaurant ambiance have taken a downturn, too, from what I would have called 5 start restaurant quality in the main dining room in the past to just good food now. With the main dining room often crowed with kids, that impacted our experience as well. The wine list has taken a HUGE downturn - there wasn't a single white burgundy on the list... in years past there was an entire page. It's been replaced with California Chardonnays. Sorry, but for my once a year vaca with just the hubby, I want a good Puligny Montrachet. They have added a newer casual restaurant called Mangos which is a good bargain - casual but great food and fun. It's also great (but somewhat limited menu and a bit slow) for lunch.
Our restauarant reservations were taken care of promptly, however, they don't send the "reminder/confirmation" notices to the room with the location and time of your dinner like they used to.
Tennis services were great - the Pros are fantastic and fun. I recommend the weekly mixer - great fun.
Spa services were quite good, too. Great deep tissue massage.
We sat on the beach until dusk to enjoy the fantastic sunset views - very hard to top!
I loved this place in the past for couples, but much less so now. I will say that we went during a VERY heavy spring break week for schools, so I'm not sure the kid issue is so bad at other times of the year. That said, If you're looking for a special romantic gettaway, I think I'd probably try others places.....
