“A beautiful destination. Service levels were excellent.”
We stayed at the Resort April 29 – May 5, 2008. This was our third visit to the Four Seasons Nevis. Thomas Legner took over as Resort Manager seven months ago. We ran into Mr. Legner several times during our stay. His presence around the resort, greeting guests during meals and visiting with guests in the lobby has lifted the service levels of the staff. We think the staff has always been very friendly, but with the new, highly visible, Resort Manager the staff appeared to have a renewed sense of enthusiasm and pride for service delivery. We experienced excellent service. In our opinion, the service was better than Great Exuma, on par with Hualalai, and just a notch below Punta Mita.
Getting there:
We began this trip over on St. Maarten at the Westin Dawn Beach (see my other review), so we flew from SXM non-stop to St. Kitts (SKB), a 30-minute up and down flight. From there Four Seasons staff greets you and they have a Resort check-in desk right at the St. Kitts airport. They gather a few other guests and transfer you to the Port Zante pier, 5-minutes from the airport. Then you embark on a 25-minute launch ride to the Four Seasons pier. Cold towels are offered, along with an assortment of beverages. We’ve taken the launch three times, and it’s very smooth. When you arrive, Four Seasons staff greets you at their pier and walk you directly to your guest room.
Previously, we have also flown onto Nevis (NEV) from San Juan. That’s a 10-minute drive from the airport to the Resort. We flew home from NEV and connected in San Juan for our flight to Dallas.
Food Service:
The Dining Room - Our service and selection in The Dining Room (resort’s fine dining restaurant) was excellent. Dinner for two with appetizer, main course, dessert, and 1 bottle of wine was $290.
Neve - Each day we enjoyed the breakfast buffet in Neve (resort’s casual dining restaurant) at $40 per person.
Pool Cabana - Lunch was at the Pool Cabana and typically $63 - $81 for two. Poolside tropical cocktails are $15.
Mango - Dinner at Mango (resort’s casual dining restaurant on the beach) with appetizers, main course, dessert, and one round of cocktails was $148.
There are three plantation inn restaurants that we recommend off property, in this order:
1. Montpelier
2. Hermitage
3. Nisbet
We think you would enjoy all three restaurants. Each is about a 15-minute taxi cab ride, about $40 round-trip. Your driver will not leave the plantation inn, and is ready to drive you home when you have finished dinner. The service and selection at each is excellent and prices are about $100 - $125 per person with cocktails and a nice bottle of wine.
Fun Activities:
Pinney’s Beach is very large and peaceful, along with the Resort’s three pools. There is a good assortment of non-motorized beach toys. So, it’s a great resort to just relax, read a book, listen to your iPod, and enjoy the view of St. Kitts across the water.
Island Tour – the Resort can arrange an island tour for 3-hours, $40 per person. Ask for “Humpy” or Phillip as your driver. They are both great story tellers and know much about the Island and the Caribbean.
Snorkeling – the Resort can arrange for a ½ day snorkel cruise for $75 per person.
Scuba is $165 per person for a two tank dive and is done by Amy Weber, Dive Master, Scuba Safari’s. She’s great.
Golf – there has been a good amount of rain so the course is very green and well maintained for a Caribbean course. It’s a very forgiving layout, perfect for couples on vacation.
Tennis – there are a dozen courts, including a few clay courts. Hardly anyone was playing. What’s happened to tennis?
Spa – my wife loved the spa, had a facial, manicure, pedicure, and the signature massage.
Sunshine’s has moved down the beach about ¼ of a mile. They are still serving their signature “Killer Bees” tropical cocktail, along with cheap food & drinks. Four of us strolled down there, ordered 4 Carib beers and 3 Killer Bees, and the total was only $20. People rave about their food. We didn’t order any food, because it’s reeeally a dump, and not worth the food poisoning risk, in our most humble opinion, when your on vacation for just a few days.
Will we return to the Resort again? Absolutely. The Resort opened in 1991, so major renovations are planned for the Resort to bring it up to the standards of others like Punta Mita, Costa Rica, and Hualalai.
I hope this information is helpful.
