If you want a place that hasn't been commercialized and overdeveloped, that hidden place that's quiet, has good beaches and makes you feel you're someplace where McDonalds would never come, then I think Bequia is for you. It's definitely more of a self-service place, for those who like to explore. There are two nice beaches (Princes Margaret and Lower Bay) near the main town. Spend some time at Princes Margaret and then catch a water taxi to Lower Bay and have some cools beers at Da Reef. Several nice restuarants and bars to choose from, including Mac's and Frangipani. Reservations are recommended. We always ended up at Frangipani after dinner for drinks or where the jump ups were. The windward side of the island is less developed and has some nice beaches as well. Friendship Bay was nice and has a restuarant bar. Spring Bay has a nice view but swimming is difficult. Industry Bay is much more manageable and it's likely you will find very few people there. There's a little place to get drinks there. We had a cab drop us off at Spring Bay and pick us up several hours later. It's a nice walk up to Industry Bay and the Turtle Santuary. We walked back to Spring Bay and had an afternoon meal at Spring on Bequia. Bequia is also a nice place to visit other islands in the Grenadines. There are day trips Mustique and the Tobago Cays. Overall, this is a great relaxing place away from noisy tourists and the commercialized Caribbean.
