I was surprised to tread LSCBCR's poor review of Pax Guest House. I was there last month and totally enjoyed my stay. It's true that the accommodatons are not luxurious--but they don't advertise them as such. It felt very homey to me and clean. The people working there were very pleasant and nice and the food was quite good. They make their bread everyday so it's fresh and homemade. When i made my reservations it was pretty clear that there was no lunch and no TV or technology--but that's why we went there! We went to Trinidad to enjoy the beauty and culture of the island, particularly the nature walks, hikes, and birdwatching. We found that the owners were super helpful in arranging activities for us that were not the usual run of the mill tour you'd get in a big hotel. It seems like the lsbcr wanted a big hotel experience--which is totally fine--and didn't get one at the Pax but he shouldn't have expected to--it's not that type of place! If you want to visit an exotic island in a very homey and comfortable atmosphere with few frills but plenty of hospitality, then Pax is the place for you. If you want to hang out on an island and pretend you are still home in America, then you probably better go to the HIlton for about 5x the price.
