I've been traveling to Port-of-Spain regularly since 2002. we've hosted functions at all the nice hotels in Port-of-Spain, and, with the exception of the Carlton-Savannah, have been disappointed every single time (Yes, even at the new Hyatt. Their prices are astronomic, and their restaurnat offers little choice and average quality).
The Service:
The Carlton Savannah provides first class service, even by European or Asian standards. The service could hardly be better. If you know Trinidad, you know how difficult this is to believe. Go there. You'll see.
The Food.
Gourmet. Just under Chaud, at far less cost. The bar, Indaba (say it and it will make sense), is small but trendy. It is upscale and attracts same. Nice.
The Facilities.
Excellent so far, and still in progress. The rooms are European in style, but American in size :). Check out the new rooftop bar; it should be nice when complete. The pool is lame, and thereis no pool bar for after-work drinks. The hotel is wedged between mountainside and busy traffic, so relaxing outside would not be all that great regardless of how the pool could be appointed. In all fairness, Port-of-Spain is not a tropical exotic get-away anyway.
