“Very disappointed”

We stayed at Footprints as the second part of our honeymoon in June, aiming for total seclusion in beautiful and comfortable surroundings. The resort has fantastic potential and it is in a stunning setting. However, the accommodation was very disappointing, grubby and dirty, badly maintained and managed. We actually ended up leaving a couple of days early to finish our honeymoon in much more inviting surroundings.

We have just returned from two days at Footprints Eco Resort in Tobago. We were booked to stay at another spot nearby and had headed out to explore before arriving at our intended destination. We saw the sign for Footprints and drove down to have a look...and within minutes changed our plans so that we could remain at this wonderful place.

Footprints has clearly seen better days. In the short 7 or so years since it was built it has certainly deteriorated. The upkeep on a place like that must be extensive, and it certainly is in need of more maintenance. And there are many, many nicer beaches in Tobago. And much more to do in other resorts.

But we will go back to Footprints. The four units facing the bay are wonderful, with spectacular views, privacy, and a hammock outside our door. Our king sized bed was very comfortable. We loved the bathtub/shower with the little garden right by the tub. We slept to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. We helped Kirk to pull back the "retractable" roof in the dining area to watch the moon and stars as we ate. We had a drink in the sea water hot tub and watched the sunset. And we ate wonderfully cooked fish, curries, dahl, and home made ice cream.

The atmosphere is completely low key and relaxed. There is no pretention whatsoever. Privacy, intimacy, water, birds, stars....what more could you want for a short stay.

Footprints is not for everyone if you're a Hilton aficionado you may not enjoy the pastoral grounds, unfettered wildlife, crashing surf, or charming help. On the other hand, if you revere local color, languid days, and a staff that seeks to please you ll love it!!!I just spent two of the most relaxing weeks in recent memory at Footprints, where the sounds of the sea lulled me to sleep every night. My beloved lounged in the Jacuzzi above the beach for hours on end, getting out only for another Caribe I found the rooms airy and delightful, perched above the bay in the treetops I felt like I had my own tree house on a tropical island! The food was fresh and delicious and provided insight to T&T cuisine. My boyfriend s birthday was New Year s Eve and the staff took great pains to create a special cake in his honor (not to mention cater to his every culinary craving!)Footprints provides a potent memory of all that is lovely about Tobago...

I did not stay at Footprints, however I already know that I won't be considering this resort when I'm planning my vacation. I called Footprints to speak with someone staying there and the person answering the phone was very hostile, come on thats not very tourist friendly.Just from that phone call I don't think I want to stay away from home being around an arrogant and rude staff.

Every establishment can be forgeiven for a bad day and it would be harsh to slate them forever.
We constantly do staff training so that this sort or incident would not re-occur again.

“Great potential, but...”

I stayed at the main villa at Footprints Eco-Resort in July 2003. The resort charges premium rates for the villas, but sad to say, the management has not maintained the property to an acceptable standard. The resort is in one of the most beautiful parts of Tobago and the villas are very secluded with jacuzzi and pool. Our holiday could have been so much more enjoyable if only the roof did not start leaking after the first heavy rains - the bathroom, kitchen and living room had water dripping everywhere. Thank goodness the bedroom remained dry! Also, the staff don't seem to realize the importance of having the pool and jacuzzi filled and operating properly before guests arrive - it was two days before we could get them to fix all the problems. Beautiful location and great potential but poor resort management.

The materials that we used on the roof of this villa though helped us with our Eco concept, but did not keep the rains out after a few years.
We had to look at another material that keeps the rains out and at the same time enhances the villa the beauty of the natural surroundings.
