“Do Not Recommend This Hotel!”

Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino

We just returned from a week stay (7/13/05) at the Divi and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The pictures make it seem lovely yet, they have so many issues I can't even begin to tell you all of them. The rooms are spacious enough but, are not maintained well. In the bathroom, there was a hole in the sheet rock where a towel rack had been pulled out and not replaced. The lighting is above the wash basin and there is no light to see when showering. The air conditioner was so loud and sputtered everytime it shut down making us wonder if it would come back on. The rooms have a slight mildew odor. The arcade room did not have a single working game. The workout room also had three broken pieces of equipment. Of the five hammocks, two had huge holes in them so they were not even usable!

Food selection was horrible and there is not a children's menu available. One evening we were greeted at the bar cafe with "seven items on the menu are not available tonight" and I was told on Sunday evenings the restaurant is closed. The service was horrible at best. You literally had to ask for someone to take your order. I'm well aware when you are on vacation you are on "island time" however, this was ridiculous. This hotel is not near any other dining and you must have a car to get anywhere. A cab ride for two to Christianstead costs $40 round trip and if you are traveling with children you are looking at $80 cab just to go to dinner!

I have traveled extensively to the Carribean - Grand Cayman, St. Thomas, St. John, Jamaica, etc. and I have never stayed at a hotel with such a total lack of overall maintenance. They have the ability to actually offer a really nice stay but, they simply do not put the customer first and really don't care. A wedding was held on Saturday on one of the decks. They did not remove the chairs, flowers, or aisle runner for three days! It's really such a shame because it does have potential. Also, be prepared to leave a $25 deposit to check out beach towels (half are old and faded) and an additional $200 deposit for incidentals. I know I'm not the only one complaining because I spoke with another woman while there with a party of nine that was so disappointed she contacted her travel agent and moved to the Buccaneer. Just be forewarned it's not up to par... The island is beautiful and the water is perfect just don't stay at the Divi.

“Loved the Divi”

We stayed at the Divi for our Honeymoon. We had an ocean front room, it was very clean and nicely decorated in Island colors. The food was excellent in both the cafe and restaurant. The pool area was neat and clean. The beach was beautiful, there were many places to relax under the palms or out in the sun. The casino was very nice also, complimentary drinks while you tried to win at the slot machines or video poker. The staff in the hotel as well as the restaurants and casino were very friendly. We are planning to return for our 5 year anniversary, if not sooner!

“Find a different resort on St. Croix (you won't be sorry)”

Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino

This resort left alot to be desired starting with the level of service, we felt as though we were bothering the staff when we arrived for breakfast in the morning, no one says goodmorning or even looks you in the eye, they seem to hate the tourists. There is little to no entertainment other than Crab Races and a Barbecue, we guessed that the Divi Carina Bay wanted the tourists to visit their Casino for entertainment. The beach had so much turtle grass that to totally get wet you had to kneel down in the sand. We lost water one morning, it was a good thing we didn't plan on showering until nighttime as we just about had enough water to brush our teeth and wash our faces, the toilets wouldn't flush (this is common at this resort we were told). We thought that the island was as unfriendly as the Divi was until we ventured outside this resort and we were pleasantly surprised as to how nice and friendly the island people really were. We don't understand what the problem was at the Divi, other guests all agreed with us as did a Customs Inspector we spoke to on the way home. She told us she heard alot of people complaining about the Divi Carina Bay. We would return to St. Croix but never to the Divi even if the hotel was free, if it wasn't for the great people we met who were also guests this trip would have been awful, we probably would have tried to come home sooner!! Try Cheney Bay instead, great people, level of service we got in one afternoon surpassed anything we had at Divi.

This was our first experience using our timeshare and what a place to start! The staff was wonderful and very helpful and the hotel could not have been better. The island was absolutely beautiful over & under water. A must for scuba divers and snorklers! The Cane Bay Dive Shop is in the Divi as well as in Christianstead and at Cane Bay. All the employees are very nice and knowledgable. Buck Island is a must.Make sure you use Big Beards, the locals say they do the best trip and it was great. Duggan's restaurant and the Off the Wall Beach Bar were our favorite places! Don't miss this trip! Word of advise, rent a Jeep. Things are very spread out on the island and you really need a car to get around or you will miss too much and a four wheel vehicle is required for exploring the "scenic roads".

“Poor service - same as most of the Island though.”

Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino

My family had 2 rooms here - rooms were clean and spacious, pool was nice and the beach is very pretty. The service, like many places in the islands, is a different story. The pool bar/restaurant service, in particular, is horrendous. It does help to begin all of your requests to locals with a smile and greeting and "How are you today" - otherwise you can get the cold shoulder.

Room service is very poor - we were hung up on when we called and requested information on an item on the menu! They did try to double bill us for the room (we had pre-paid through Expedia) so check your bill carefully. This is a bit of a hike from Christiansted, but that is what we wanted. If you have kids, get a ground floor beachfront room - it is quite convenient and literally on the beach - the kids could come and go very easily.
