After months of research, my best fried & I decided to stay at Hotel Caravelle while in St. Croix. Check in took forever! On the night we noticed that there was water dripping from the ceiling. When we called the front desk, we were told that maintenance wouldn't be back until the morning. With no other alternative, we put a trash can under the leak and stayed up from the dripping for the rest of the night. After check out, I noticed that my debit card had been charged twice. When I called the front desk, the woman was very unfriendly and acted as if I was bothering her. Customer service here is rude and the rooms are mediocre. We will no be returning to this hotel.

Terrible experience. Tough to go up to third floor with 40 lbs of luggage. Room dirty. No sprinkler system and only exit is outside stairway. All rooms have ashtrays. Loud and noisy. Could not get room temp below 80 degrees during the day.
Mold apprears to be present in air vents. Would not return.
Good price but like a Motel 6 in 1950. Building really needs some work.

Although not overly impressed with it's ambiance, the Caravelle was both clean & comfortable. Also, the Staff were kind and considerate; perhaps my first encounter with the casual or laid-back approach of Caribbean people. The next morning, the issue of ambiance took a back seat to that of location, as I set out to explore the immediate area via foot. The Caravelle is in an excellent location that allows several hours of exploration via foot. Such ended only as I happened upon a small, air-conditioned restaurant frequented by local (business) folk. Thus was fortunate enough to experience a gourmet lunch followed by a nice, inexpensive glass of Irish Cream. (Traded the next day for Cruzan Cream manufactured right on the Island). Fortunately, I had not taken the suggestion of family members to stay at two other (more expensive) hotels; of which one would host a family wedding. Traveling alone, I would've felt secluded or stranded elsewhere. Rather, the Caravelle was right in the midst of daily life activities. Further, C'Sted Harbor located just outside of the Caravelle was as picturesque as any other geographical location. (The photos that I took are beautiful, but I only happened upon this web site, and do not have them with me right now.) I met folk on the harbor that I would come to call friends. Given the price, I wouldn't hesistate to stay at the Carvelle again or recommend it to friends.

We were very pleased that we chose Hotel Caravelle. Having just surfed the internet, and not knowing St. Croix at all, we took a chance and booked this hotel online. We couldn't believe the location. It is located right on the boardwalk. The room was clean with a gorgeous view of the pool/ocean. There is a restaurant connected to the Hotel Caravelle called the Rumrunner. The Rumrunner restaurant was poised right over the water. It had a great menu and "happy hour". The web cam on St Croix was near the entrance to the restaurant so you could call home and have your family see you "live" online (since it refreshes itself every 30 seconds). The feeding of the tarpon at night was really cool. They were drawn to the light at the restaurant. You could walk easily around town shopping and finding other restaurants on the boardwalk. The Hotel Caravelle is certainly convenient to everything. Safety was never a problem at the Caravelle. There was parking out back for your rental car. The rental car was great for exploring other parts of the Island but not needed if you just planned on staying in town. There are plenty of shops and places to eat all around the Hotel Caravelle. People were friendly there. I would go there again with no hesitation. Thanks for a great vacation Hotel Caravelle. Leslie
