We're on vacation in the Virgin Islands, and - as one might expect - try to get info from as many sources as possible as to where to eat and drink. This particular restaurant was recommended by a friend; several locals that we spoke with weren't too enthusiastic, but we figured what the heck. Described as everything ranging from a hole-in-the-wall to a really great place, the actual location falls somewhere in between, but the food - first class, and the wine list - divine!
I have to say that coming to the islands one expects a limited selection and high prices on the local wine lists, but Craig has done himself proud. Not only does he have a great wine list, but a great by-the-glass list as well.
The location is out of the way. Behind the post office, end of the road, left, then left, then left, and you're there. Parking is tight, but that's typical of the island. The building itself isn't imposing, but Craig greeted us at the door and showed us to a table. First thing I notice was a HUGE wine selection, in racks throughout the restaurant. The food is prepared by the day - we overheard our waiter (Eric - cool dude) telling people who came in later that they had run out of several of the items we ordered. Made us feel special!
They have a nice tapas menu - our table had: roasted beets with goat cheese and chardonnay sea salt, tuna crudo with lychees, asparagus and gruyere tart, and a pork tapas. All delicions, especially the beets and the tart. Main courses: brisket that was melt-in-your mouth good, fresh wahoo in a soy broth that had just enough spice to make it soar, and a duck dish that was supurb.
They won my heart by having Oren Swift's "The Prisoner" for a reasonable $66.00 (it retails in Miami for around $35). We went through that bottle before the main courses arrived, so I hit the by-the-glass menu for a nice glass of Albarino. Went great with the fish.
Dessert was sublime - an apple-and-pear sour cream pie. better than sex. Yes it was.
Total bill was VERY reasonable for the ambiance, and the food. Highly recommended!
