The views from this hotel are awesome. The cruise ships passing every morning and night are just beautiful to watch. The beach at morning star is beautiful! The resort food and drink is very expensive! We took a cab to the K-mart and bought beer, cokes, sandwhich stuff and water. The rooms do have a fridge! There was a lot of construction going on when we were there and it sounded like drills were coming through the floor every morning starting at 7am. It wasn't much of a problem since I was up and by the pool not long after that time anyway! I highly recommend this place! I hope to return! I just hope there is no construction going on. It might be wise to ask about that when you book a room and if so just ask them to move you as far away as possible from the construction site!

I really dont know why this hotel got such high marks. When we went inside our room the odor almost knocked us out. The smell of mildew, mold etc was overwhelming. Housekeeping proceeded to spray air freshner that only made the odor worse. Even the clerk working at the front desk agreed the room smelled terrible. I again asked the front desk to see if another room was available. The second room had some sort of mold growth all over the walls. The third room was ok I had no other choice it was better than the last two. Thank goodness we were only staying for one night. This hotel is in need of a serious renovation. You cant have a nice lobby and have rooms in this condition.

Just back from a stay at the Frenchman Reef Villas, a Marriott Time Share next to the Marriott Hotel. We stayed at the hotel one night before we went to the Villas. The hotel is very nice and the Morningstar Beach area, pool and beach are lovely. We had stayed at the Marriott one other trip about five years ago. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful both times.

The Villas are brand new and are two and three bedroom accomodations. They are time share properties and will be very well maintained in the Marriott time share way I assume. While at the hotel, you can sign up for a Time Share talk and get $100 in coupons to use at various places at the Marriott and some local establishments. It was painless and since everything in St. Thomas is very expensive - worth the time spent learning about the time share opportunity for the coupons! That pays for a lunch or two.

Some things to note from our trip: We rented a car (although they drive on the wrong side of the road) and found it very economical and helpful to have our own ride to explore the island. Taxis are very expensive here. There were 5 of us to tote around and it was economical in every way. We took a car ferry to St. John for $53 for the carload of us roundtrip. That is a must do as the beaches there are exquisite! We say Maegans Bay and Sapphire Beach in St Thomas too. Both are lovely.

Some restaurants we enjoyed: Iggy's at Bolongo Bay Resort is a beach bar/restaurant with excellent food. They have all you can eat crab legs night on Saturday and Tuesday, which was fun! My guys ate their share of crab legs. It costs $34 to do the crab leg thing. Their food was reasonably priced and I thought it was one of the better meals we had on the island. It was reasonably priced and a very enjoyable, right on the water view.
East Side Cafe in Redhook was wonderful Italian too. Cuzzins is a local West Indian restaurant located on Backstreet in Charlotte Amalie. The food was local and very good and gives you more the local flavor. Coco Joe's at Morningstar Beach at the Marriott is an open air establishment with great food and drink too. We enjoyed it on several occasions!
We ate at Havana Blue's on Morningstar Beach the evening we arrived. The food was very good, very expensive and it was very warm and uncomfortable in there

We had a great trip to St. Thomas! It was alot of fun!

“Great Time at the Marriott”

Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Beach Resort

We had a great time at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef Resort. Overall the resort was very nice. Our room was on a hill overlooking the beach. It was clean and comfortable. It was a bit of a long walk to the beach but who can't use the exercise. The tennis court was being redone but we didn't want to use it anyway. The pool was nice but it could have been cleaner, and the water was kind of cloudy. Most likely in need of some chemicals. The restaurants were nice. Not cheap but I wouldn't expect them to be. The buffets were nice. Lots of food for the price for breakfast. Most of the staff was very friendly. Our two young children loved the resort and the island. We will definitely go back again.

We just back back from celebrating our 20 year anniversary at Morning Star. We honeymooned at Frenchman's Reef 20 years ago. This time we brought our 15 year old son. I'll I can say is WOW! We don't vacation much, but when we do, we try and do it right. We did! The beachfront rooms at Morning Star are magnificent! Is it pricey yes! Sand dollar package 450.00 a night. one free night, 100.00 food credit. I read of people complaining about Frenchman's Reef. They are building time shares to the right of it. I still think there is a allot of construction noise. We didn't hear any. The grounds are Frenchman's reef are beautiful. I'm not sure about the rooms. Do yourself a favor, stay at Morning Star, and walk up to the other property. Service....We met a friend, Yvette, at Cocoa Joe's. She is a server there. She found out my son had a bad sunburn, and brought aloe from her house to help him out. In short, your in the tropics, ground floor, expect birds, iguanas. and noise from the waves because your so close. you get what you pay for, and them some..Have fun!
