“Read this before you book! Take your chances with overbooking”

Secret Harbour Beach Resort

We booked and paid for 1-bedroom and a 2-bedroom beachfront suites about 6 months ago, based upon messages here, and called to confirm twice. Upon arrival (at check-in time) last week they said "The room isn't ready, come back in 20 minutes." So the 7 of us sat around until they came out and said "well actually your rooms have been taken - the owners showed up and they have priority. We have booked you into the Wyndom down the road." I asked "Do we have comparable rooms - beachfront suites and 3 separate bedrooms?" and they said yes. (First mistake - you should always call the other hotel to confirm this when you are still at the first.)

Then we drove over to the Wyndom which was a huge and somewhat dingy mega-hotel with Surprise! no beachfront rooms at all, and a measly little beach and coldish pools. Upon arrival there they has us in the lowest price standard rooms, and only two of them. They said "there are two double beds in each so 4 people can sleep in one of the rooms, that's all that Secret Harbour booked you for" After a lot of calling back and forth (I can't wait to get the roaming cell phone bill for that one), and escalating to making a scene in the lobby, they got us another room, but that one wasn't ready until about 6pm. The $ total was now about the same, but the situation was much worse, and we had had to get angry and upset - never a nice way to arrive on vacation.

So Secret Harbour may be nice, but if you book you are taking your chances that the owners or other guests could arrive at any time and bump you with no warning, then send you off to a completely different experience at a far less comparable situation. You might want to seriously reconsider and book a place that manages their booking better, and then handles overbooking more professionally. I've heard Bolongo Bay Resort is great. Sapphire Beach is very nice and there are a number of properties there.

“Secret Harbour”

Secret Harbour Beach Resort

We spent Christmas week at Secret Harbour. This was our first trip to St. Thomas. We loved St. Thomas! The ocean scenery was breathtaking. The ferry to St. John's Trunk Bay beach is highly recommended. We rented a car and went to Red Hook nearly every day--great restaurants, bars, and supplies from Marina Market.
Secret Harbour has a beautiful beach setting and the Blue Moon restaurant and bar were wonderful. (especially Michael!) We had a heavenly week, but....our room really needed refurbishing and we suffered severe bug bites. (Use insect repellent at all times and take mosquito spray for the rooms, as well as anesthetic cream for itching.)
We booked a package through Orbitz that included an "oceanfront room". We were assigned a handicapped room (a floor up from the beach) with sparse furnishings. There was no ceiling fan or DVD/CD player.
We will return to Secret Harbour, but will book an oceanfront studio or suite.

I stayed at Secret Harbour with my wife and four year old son for ten days from dec. 1-11. We booked a 1 bedroom oceanview, which was plenty of room for the three of us. The previous year we stay at the Marriott Morningstar resort and this place was defintitely better for our family. The view from the patio was one of my favorite things in the early morning and evening. The location is great, away from the crowds and a beautiful bay with excellent snorkeling. The staff was very kind and friendly and the maid service was great. I would certainly return there in the future.

“Our Best View Ever! We loved Secret Harbour!”

Secret Harbour Beach Resort was everything we expected and more. We booked this trip through skyauction for an amazing price. As it was our first experience with skyauction, we were a little nervous as to what to expect. We were in an oceanview suite #736, a large 1 bedroom condo that was more than adequate for our needs. It was beautifully decorated and incredibly clean with daily maid service. It had a cd player, a dvd player and more! Our view was breath taking! My favorite part of our trip was morning coffee on the patio. It was a healthy walk to the beach area but we decided it was good exercise for us and the view was so worth it.

We brought some dry food with us and took a trip to the grocery store at Red Hook. I didn't find the Marina food prices as outrageous as others had expressed, considering the cost of eating out it was a bargain. We did eat a couple of times at the Blue Moon Cafe and food was excellent. Service was a little slow but we were not really in a hurry. We did a few lunches with drinks at the pool bar; bartender Cecilia was a delight to be served by, Risa could have been a little less sarcastic but both ladies made excellent drinks for us.

I noticed that some previous reviews had some complaints with regard to the front staff and I could see where this might happen as sometimes they appeared to be not the most pleasant. I just tried to stay pleasant myself which seemed to change their moods. Twice we had to call the front desk for help with problems and they were dealt with very quickly (island quickly)

The beach was lovely and oh so scenic. We never had any trouble securing a beach chair. Our only complaint here was the sand flies (no-see-ums), oh my they were awful. Although I was bit many times and they were itchy, my husband had a severe reaction to the bites and looked like he had measles! Highly recommend bringing bug repellant and anti-itch ie: benedryl cream.

We did all our scuba diving with Carl from Aqua Action Dive Centre which is located right at Secret Harbour. He is highly qualified and therefore an excellent dive master. He was very instructive throughout our dives and we highly recommend him to other divers of all levels. His shop also rents out snorkel equipment which is terrific just off the beach!

We could see the pool from our room and we did swim a little here in the evening. It was small but definitely adequate and well kept.

We loved Secret Harbour Beach Resort and would return in a second!

“Nice place to relax”

Secret Harbour Beach Resort

10 Dec 2006
7/7 found this review helpful

Me and my friend stayed at Secret Harbout from 11/27 to 12/1.

Secret Harbour is nice place to stay for a couple of days of relaxation and sun. We stayed in building # 2 right on the beach.
Excellent views of the calm harbour and beach.

The first few days we did long day trips so we were hardly in our
room. The only thing I did not like about Secret Harbour is their reluctance to cash travelers checks. The front desk was insistent on not cashing traveler checks above $50. Other than that the staff at the front desk was courteous and helpful. Especially when our toilet stopped working. It was fixed within an hour after we told them. The cleaning staff did an excellent job in maintaining our 1 bedroom
condo.

We took day trips to St. John and Tortola. St. John is the real "virgin" island. It is untouched in some many places I felt I could visit again. We hired a taxi driver to give us a tour of the island and we enjoyed the breathtaking views. Tortola is nice too especially the Botanical Gardens and Callwood Distillery.

We did snorkeling and kayaking with Eco-Tours. The instructor was patient with me since I did not know how to swim. We also did the Atlantis submarine which was exciting.

Mountaintop was a wonderful place to visit as well as Paradise Point. Views of Charlotte Amalie and its harbour was spectacular.

The meals at Secret Harbour were excellent and the restaurant and bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the food and drinks epecially the waiter named Michael.

If I had to visit Secret Harbour again I would because its a beautiful place with a calm serene beach and hospitable staff.
