Powerboat Adventure
You can book this excursion at your hotel or at any other hotel. You are required to pay a down payment at this time. The rest is paid on the day of the excursion. This excursion picks you up at your hotel in the early morning and takes you to the marina where you fill out forms for liability and pay the rest of the fees.
You are then given a colored tag to which you board the boat according to color. There are several power boats that leave together. The captain of the power boat gives a talk about the rules and gives you the plan of action while getting there to the Exumas.
You begin moving slow and gradually speed up to 40mph for the rest of the trip. It is a 1 hour boat ride; however it doesn’t feel like an hour. The ride was nice and smooth. The water was extremely gorgeous, clear, and clean. Before we head to the first small island, the captains on the boats decided to play some fun music and applied some fancy maneuvers to the boat which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Our first stop was a very small island full of lively iguanas. There were bunches of them on the island waiting to be fed some grapes. We were told that we could not wear our shoes on this island because of the danger of hurting the iguanas accidentally. We were given a handful of grapes and told to find a long stick to puncture the grape at the end of it and feed it to the iguanas. We could not feed the grapes to the iguanas in our hands because the iguanas would indeed bite us. We had many opportunities to feed the iguanas, walk in the beautiful, soft, white sand, and take pictures.
Next, we boarded the power boat and headed for the main island where we would spend the rest of our day. The boats had more fancy maneuvers in store for us which were fun. Out of nowhere, a guy appeared on a small boat with his dog and began taking pictures of us in the boat. He was the one who filmed the whole excursion and made a DVD for those that wanted to buy one.
We finally got to the Exumas, got our belongings out and found a hut to place our things. There were even clean, fully stocked bathrooms for us to use. There was another big hut with lots of tables for us to sit and a bar loaded with alcohol which was free by the way. Immediately, we noticed sharks and sting rays approaching. They were coming out of nowhere. The sharks are mainly lemon sharks which could reach up to 11 feet. We had plenty of opportunities to feed the sting rays. You place some fish between your fingers and then place your hand on the sand bar and the sting ray comes by and sucks it out of your hand. We were also able to touch and pet them quite often. The captains then chopped up a large grouper fish and tied it to the end of the rope to feed the sharks. The guys threw the rope out and the sharks came out to try and get it. The sharks actually come very close to the sandbar to where you are only a few feet from them. Then you have the opportunity to play tug of war with the sharks and the bait. The guy throws out the rope and you hold the other end of it. The shark tugs and tugs on the rope which pulls you in a little until you can no longer hold onto the rope and you have to let go. It’s very exciting!
A huge boar also lives on this island and comes by to see what kind of food he can get as well. One of the boat crew threw some food out in the water and the boar swam out to get the food. It didn’t go out too far because the sharks were still around. One of the people in our crew fed it beer and it toppled over. It was funny. It likes to be in and near the water.
Next, after the sting rays and sharks were well fed, we were able to put on our snorkeling gear, get a quick lesson about snorkeling, and walk to our destination where we’d begin our adventure. The guys provide snorkeling equipment if you don’t have any. The walk to the other side of the island was nice until you reached the point where the sharp rocks were. Then, you had to be re ally careful not to hurt your feet. When you finally got to your destination, you put your gear on and let the current take you out. It was beautiful! The water is just amazing. Different colors of aqua blue and green covered all of the Exumas. We saw lots of coral and fish. There were even some sharks that swam with us!! The sharks swam underneath us. The captains of our boats swam with us as well to protect us in case a shark got hasty. They carried long canes in which to hit them on the face and nose to get them away. It felt very safe. We swam out until we got to a point where we had to swim hard to get out of the current before it took us out too far. We were able to do it again and enjoy the scenery more.
Afterwards, it was time to eat. The crew made us grilled grouper fish, steak, pasta salad, green salad, beans, fruit, cheese, and bread. It was all you could eat. It was amazing! Mind you, this still also included all of the beverages you wanted including alcohol. We ate, enjoyed the scenery, and swam some more.
Later, they offered everyone some cookies and another opportunity to snorkel again or you could sit in the sand bar and chat with others while sipping a few drinks.
As time passed by, they called us all to watch the DVD made of our adventure that day. You had the option of buying the DVD for $60 which was a very reasonable price! It came out very good.
We began heading back at around 4pm in order to get to the marina at 5pm. I’ve never had so much fun in my life! It’s definitely worth the $190!
