This is a much bigger fort than Fort Fincastle. The government has started charging $5 a person to go inside but it is a good twenty minute tour. Hopefully, now that it is a paid tour, they will open more of the Fort for touring. There is also Fort Stanley that seems to be part of Fort Charlotte but we didn't go through. There are also additional quarters built nearby that would have been nice to go through but weren't included. (The additional quarters were built because the soldiers in the fort kept getting sick due to poor ventilation.) However, if you go on a cruise tour (Historic Highlights) you only have a 20 minute stop anyway.
They are trying to get some of the artifacts of the fort brought back from where they are on display in England but apparently that is a whole topic unto itself. (This is true for Fort Fincastle too). There is little in the way of artifacts there though it is understandable in the old sleeping quarters where the holes still exist in the ceiling where the posts for the beds were - there would be precious little room if the beds were there. 'Course, they could put in one example....
The graffiti is very neat and there are some beautiful views from the fort. There are several "shops" set up in the parking lot but I couldn't see that there were a lot of original native crafts which you would expect. Tour guides do ask for tips even though it is a paid tour.
