A great place to stay with great food, friendly staff, lovely rooms and a wonderful pool with a waterfall. The ocean side of the house has postcard wooden porches bathed in sumptuous ocean breezes where you can breakfast or lunch. If you prefer indoor dining, the breakfast room is reminiscient of an English country breakfast with a gorgeously classical tropical lounge bidding you to languish after a nice nosh. You definitely get the feeling of English manor house here with breakfast "laid on" early to mid-morning and lunch between noon and 2pm. Lunch menu is posted on the board and you order what you want.

The garden side of the house is equally relaxing and charming with its palms, potted plants and refreshing pool with waterfall. Even when temps are on the rise, there is always a cool ocean breeze. Love Beach is five minutes walk down the hill and there’s a small restaurant/ bar called Traveller's Rest for oceanview evening dining (or lunch).

There are many beaches within walking distance nearby to visit from Orange Hill to Compass Point Beach. Orange Hill is like Love Beach, a strong surf where you meet the ocean head on.
The beach at Compass Point is the post-card variety, white, pristine sand, turquoise water and very little tide so you can walk out for yards and yards. If you are looking for a beach with restrooms and a nice calm tide, Goodman Bay is a park near Cable Beach that can't be beat. You can find water sports vendors there as well and a stretch of crescent shaped beach with pine trees. Lovely.

Don't worry about renting a car as you can easily catch a taxi or just wait for a bus to come along. Locals say the buses are not that frequent during mid-afternoon but I found one every time I needed a ride by just standing on Bay Street (the round that runs the full length of the island). Bus fare is $1, payable either when you board or when you depart. If you are in a hurry, taxi fare from downtown Nassau to Gambier Heights (A Stones Throw Away) is about $20; $12 from Cable Beach.

A Stone's Throw Away is home from home in paradise, the stuff dreams are made of..... a peaceful, restorative environment where you can really relax. If you want the hustle of the casinos and shopping in Nassau, by all means grab a taxi or a bus and head in for the buzz. But spend your mornings and evenings at A Stone's Throw Away so you can connect to soul and come away feeling renewed.

“Disappointing”

A Stone's Throw Away

We stayed at a Stone's Throw Away for one night in April.

Our room was very nicely decorated, but we had to switch rooms because there was no hot water. It seemed that this is a recurring problem, as we saw a previous tripadvisor review that mentioned this. The service was somewhat inattentive to our problem.

Our second room had hot water, but it also came with a few guests (very large bugs).

The breakfast was fine, and the grounds are very nice, but we would not recommend staying at A Stone's Throw Away.

“Best off the beaten path!”

A Stone's Throw Away

18 May 2008

Me and my wife stayed here in Feb and had the most wonderful time. The boutique inn is away from the downtown area and close to the best beach on the island( Love Beach). We stayed here for 4 nights and then stayed in Cable Beach. There is no contest. The service, atmosphere and price of Stones Throw Away far exceeds that of any resort in the area. If you want a crowded pool, T shirt shops and crowds stay in Nassau. If you want some peace and quite, a delicious FREE breakfast and a true island experience stay here. The grounds and rooms were exceptional but the staff is what made the difference. They always went out of their way to make us feel welcome. As a seasoned travleler I must say this is a top notch find!

The Stone's Throw Away B&B is located a little far from town, but had its own charm being away from all the touristy areas, making it a more serene and personal experience.

We stayed on the second floor island view and loved our room/ balcony where we could see the ocean from on the side of the balcony (beautiful). Our favourite part about the B&B was the pool/ gardens area and the breakfast patio overlooking the ocean. It was nice to get to know other travellers there and discuss outings and excursions etc. We thought the breakfast was great and included something for everyone (bagels, juice, coffee, eggs, bacon, fruit etc), although we also went out a lot to other restaurants downtown and arround the B&B. Compass Point restaurant was great and 10minutes up the road, with a nice patio overlooking the ocean, all lit up at dinner time. Also during the daytime we walked up to Love Beach (just through the Compass Point resort) which was gorgeous and almost deserted, a nice place to snorkel and relax with not alot of people around. Another good place for snorkelling is with Stuarts Cove.

You should try to bring a cooler for your room to put drinks and other snacks in because the mini fridge is very small and it is hard to go out for snacks/drinks after dark (no stores around).
Also be sure to have money for a taxi when you get off the plane, as there is no one there to pick you up (which you are told is included)!

With only a couple minor glitches, overall it was a great stay and hope to visit again someday on our way out to other out islands!

This bed and breakfast was very close to the airport- about 10 minutes away. The rooms are very nice and very clean, but there are no restaurants or stores nearby, so I would not recommend it unless you have a car. Lunch and dinner are not included and are VERY over-priced considering the quality of food. The pool is a bit small, but is very nice- it is a "waterfall-type" pool and is very soothing. The property does not have a beach, but you can walk to one in about 5-10 minutes. The staff was a bit rude, except for the woman who served us lunch and the early morning counter woman. For some of the other staff, you almost felt like you were bothering them sometimes. Again, unless you have a car, we would NOT recommend this hotel because it is located in a residential neighborhood and there are no restaurants or stores nearby. We had to end-up ordering Domino's Pizza for dinner, and it took them 2 1/2 hours to arrive with our food. We only stayed for 1 night, so it was okay for us, but for a prolonged stay I would recommend a hotel that is a bit closer to downtown.
