A great place to stay with great food, friendly staff, lovely rooms and a wonderful pool with a waterfall. The ocean side of the house has postcard wooden porches bathed in sumptuous ocean breezes where you can breakfast or lunch. If you prefer indoor dining, the breakfast room is reminiscient of an English country breakfast with a gorgeously classical tropical lounge bidding you to languish after a nice nosh. You definitely get the feeling of English manor house here with breakfast "laid on" early to mid-morning and lunch between noon and 2pm. Lunch menu is posted on the board and you order what you want.
The garden side of the house is equally relaxing and charming with its palms, potted plants and refreshing pool with waterfall. Even when temps are on the rise, there is always a cool ocean breeze. Love Beach is five minutes walk down the hill and there’s a small restaurant/ bar called Traveller's Rest for oceanview evening dining (or lunch).
There are many beaches within walking distance nearby to visit from Orange Hill to Compass Point Beach. Orange Hill is like Love Beach, a strong surf where you meet the ocean head on.
The beach at Compass Point is the post-card variety, white, pristine sand, turquoise water and very little tide so you can walk out for yards and yards. If you are looking for a beach with restrooms and a nice calm tide, Goodman Bay is a park near Cable Beach that can't be beat. You can find water sports vendors there as well and a stretch of crescent shaped beach with pine trees. Lovely.
Don't worry about renting a car as you can easily catch a taxi or just wait for a bus to come along. Locals say the buses are not that frequent during mid-afternoon but I found one every time I needed a ride by just standing on Bay Street (the round that runs the full length of the island). Bus fare is $1, payable either when you board or when you depart. If you are in a hurry, taxi fare from downtown Nassau to Gambier Heights (A Stones Throw Away) is about $20; $12 from Cable Beach.
A Stone's Throw Away is home from home in paradise, the stuff dreams are made of..... a peaceful, restorative environment where you can really relax. If you want the hustle of the casinos and shopping in Nassau, by all means grab a taxi or a bus and head in for the buzz. But spend your mornings and evenings at A Stone's Throw Away so you can connect to soul and come away feeling renewed.
