The appeal of this resort depends on what you want, my husband and I loved that it was not overcrowded and that our room and balcony were very private and overlooking the ocean.
The Great Rooms - Loved the way the balconies off the rooms offered so much privacy and a spectacular view of the ocean...we could hear the waves all night. No matter if we chose to spend time at the pool or in our room we were close to the water.
Swimming - I loved the calm, shallow water of the ocean. The pool is small but who needs a pool when the ocean is so wonderful?
Quiet - It was not a noisy, crowded place, my husband and I loved the secluded feel. This place is not for those seeking action.
Food - We've since been to Dominican Republic 5 star resorts which offered a wide variety of food and places to eat - South Ocean was not at all the same in this respect - there is one restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and the pool bar is open for lunch. We were pretty much at the mercy of the menu.
I must stress that we are not picky. The fact that the setting was lovely and that we didn't have to cook and clean ourselves was enough for us. This place is unique - hopefully when they upgrade they'll improve the restaurants and provide activities for those who want them however we loved the seclusion and the ocean.
I hope they re-open, they needed improvements but we'd go back for the Great Rooms.
