Good things:
Our room (1007) was nice, new, and clean. I don't know if we had a newer room than the other posters or what, but it wasn't musty, even though the windows didn't open. The safe, tv, a/c, and fridge worked fine, and the bathroom was redone and modern. I thought it was great. Sad though it is to admit, after snorkeling, walking to the beach, swimming, and playing games all day, we were in bed before midnight each night. We are pretty light sleepers and were not kept up at all by hall noise. In fact, I didn't hear much at all from inside the room.

The staff is really really nice and helpful. We arrived at about 10:15pm on a Monday night. We had been traveling all day and were hungry. I asked about food, and Aaron at the front desk was like, "Drop everything, go into the dining room and tell them Aaron sent you. Get some food, and then we'll finish your checkin and you can go up to your room with it." We went into the dining room and the manager greeted us. They were breaking everything down, but they let us take as much as we wanted, and we were able to eat. They were very friendly about it, though I'm sure I would be pissed if people came waltzing in after hours expecting to be fed after I've been working all day. This type of service is indicative of the type that we received all week. Everyone was always very kind, accomodating, and helpful (though not always fast.) But speed is not something you can always expect in the Bahamas. The culture is much slower and more relaxed.

Stuart Cove's snorkeling trips can be purchased right from the hotel. We went, and it was a fabulous value for $52 a person. You received free transport to the opposite end of Nassau, which was nice, because it was like a free tour. The snorkel trip was unbelievable, especially at the end with the sharks. Highly recommended.

Atlantis is really only a 10 minute walk. We had fun exploring the aquarium and ogling the multi-million boats in their marina. It was a good after-dinner walk.

Cabbage beach is a short 10-15 minute walk, and it is unbelievable. If you are looking to relax, this is the place to go. Just bring your own water and snacks, as there are no concessions.

Not so good things:

The food is not great. It's a lot like a dormitory cafeteria. I'm not a complainer, but the food (besides breakfast) is not going to knock your socks off. However, there are plenty of restaurants around to go to if you want fine dining.

The drinks are watered down. But you don't pay any extra for them, and you can have as many as you want, so it's really nothing to complain about. I prefer beer anyway, and they can't mess that up.

The pool area is a little loud. We were on this vacation to have fun and hang out, so it was fine for us. However, if you're looking to relax, it is a little raucous. There are lots of kids, so there are a good deal of splashy basketball games, bellyflopping, etc. Be aware of this.

If you plan to do what everyone else does: hang out all day and shower before dinner-be prepared for no hot water. It stinks, but we just dealt with it. I think they just need a new hot water heater and they can't accomodate nearly everyone in the hotel showering at the same time. The water during peak times is not cold, but it's tepid, like room temperature. Be prepared for this.

We don't have any kids, but we like them and played our share of pool volleyball and H-O-R-S-E in the basketball area with them on this trip. We went on the week that NY and MA mid-winter holiday falls on (on purpose, my sister in law is a teacher and this is the week she had off.) There were a ton of kids (probably a little more than normal.) We didn't mind, but be aware that this is not an adult resort. It's really a family place.

The Bahamas is plagued with ferile cats and stray dogs. The cats seem to like this resort. One night we saw a cat that was bleeding profusely and had been badly injured. No one on staff knew what to do. I'm not a veterinarian, so I couldn't help either. Apparently there is no ASPCA-type organization to refer to on the Bahamas. This upset me very much, and pretty much ruined my evening.

The bottom line:

If I wanted to stay in a 5 star and eat at Nobu every night, I could have paid for Atlantis. I didn't, because I couldn't afford it. If I wanted to save on hotel and eat at Nobu every night, I could have stayed here and walked the 10 minutes to Nobu. I didn't do that either. I paid a very reasonable price for a nice clean hotel very close to all amenities that you can expect on a tropical isle. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't so bad that we felt the need to pay elsewhere. In fact, I kind of liked it, since I didn't overeat like I've been prone to do on cruises when plied with unlimited amounts of great food. I actually lost a little weight on the trip, which I can't complain about!

“Don't Go”

First off, I requested a king waterview room and got a 2 double dump view! I complained and was upgraded to a king dumpview! Every floor smells like mildew and the bathroom is so small you have to squeeze around the door to get in. The shower had moldy chauking holding it together. The "help yourself" outside bar has watered down alcohol and flat soda machines. Not too mention the food outdoors is over or under cooked depending on the chef. Unless you can afford to stay at the Atlantis, don't think your going to find "Paradise" here! Trust me stay in Nassau, at either, Breezes or Sandals. If you can't afford to stay there - don't go to the island - you will be disappointed! Cable beach is alright - Cabbage beach was much nicer.

“very mixed review”

we went to the bahamas for a week and picked this late booking, assuming it to be a holiday inn, a it had been a few months previous.

apparently the hotel has changed its name six times in the last year?

we arrived very tired and jet lagged to find the foyer very noisy before we checked in, but this was due to the weather been very cold so every body was indoors, so can understand that totally.

we were taken to our room which, as soon as we entered the corridor to our room the odour of damp was evident. the room was meticulously clean, but very old and dated and the bathroom needed totally ripping out.

after the first night, when we were very tired, the noise from the corridors was horrendous, so we asked to be moved the next day.

no luck, it was half term and all the hotels were full onth islands, so we gritted our teeth and bared it.

The restaurants and staff were excellent and the place was spotless, it was just the rooms were so old .

The only oither minus was the fact that behind the small beach were large containers of building materials and cranes etc, not very picturesque.

Will not be returning, but this is sad as it is not unrepairable, but needs to be done as a matter of urgency.

the dead lock on the door did not work, and after reporting it three times and many men ocoming to checking on it, was not fixed in seven days and the safe did not work, which they did change, so no problem there..

We decided to take our honeymoon 2 weeks before arriving in nassau. We get to the hotel and they give us a handicap room. Our shower was a handheld shower head, Not very useful. We heard children yelling and everything else in next room until 4:00 am.We also had a view of the
lower roof. We complained and next day moved us to an upper room with a balcony. alittle better but allnight we heard the booze cruise go by until 1:30 I felt like I was in Cancun during spring break. You also hear noise coming from the harbor. The food is not good, we ate out at resterants on the island every day we were there.

I have to say the manager and staff were very friendly to us and did everything in there power to make us happy....

We have just returned from a week in Paradise Harbour Resort. It is true - you get what you pay for! The hotel offered good value for money - the food we thought especially good and plenty of choice. The rooms were perfectly adequate - clean and well furnished. Now for the bad bits. We had NO hot water 5 out of the 7 days and it took until the fifth day for it to get sorted - once we had met with the lovely Regional Manager Joseph Zaiden who went out of his way to put things right. The pool area is tired and in need of a facelift. If you like reggae style music blaring out most of the day - this is the place for you - relaxing it aint!! The "posh" restaurant lacks any kind of ambience/atmosphere at all, and frankly whilst the buffet style main restauarant is tacky in the extreme, complete with colourful imitatiion flowers in glazed shell holders, the food is much better. The menu in the "posh" restaurant was the same for the whole 7 days! We understand that there is a huge refurbishment programme underway at this hotel, and we are sure that once this has been completed, it will compete with the best of the hotels. However, as they say, what's important in property is location, location, location and unfortunately this hotel will never have anything more than its man made beach facing the harbour, rather than miles of white sand on the ocean. For an action packed, budget all inclusive resort catering especially for kids, this couldn't be beaten - but if your are looking for a classy, quiet relaxing resort look elsewhere. We think though that Joseph Zaiden will turn this hotel around - he is probably its saving grace, and we would be happy to return - once the improvements have been made.
