“Never Again!”

Atlantis Coral Towers

10 Apr 2008

My husband and I said we would never go back after the first time we stayed at Atlantis several years ago. Well, time faded our bad memories and we tried it again. Mistake. Within 24 hours of arriving, we were online checking to see if we could switch our flight and leave early. And we would have except it was going to be $3500 to do so.

It took us 24 hours and fighting tooth and nail to get an "acceptable" room. We were moved three times, and every one of the rooms were dirty, gross, smelly and outdated.

I can't state strongly enough how rude the staff is. The simplest request (salt and pepper at the restaurant in our case) is met with disdain and annoyance. The hotel manager is no different and has no interest in customer "service.'

The prices are outrageous. We knew this before hand from our previous trip, but it was still shocking. An appetizer at dinner was $33. Beers are $7. A banana? That will be $2.50, plus gratuity, even though they are all rotten. In the four days we were there, we never ate breakfast, we split lunch every day, and had a normal dinner, plus maybe one drink at the pool in the afternoon. Our bill for food and beverage (for two people) was $1200.

There are so man other choices, and when you're spending this kind of money, at least some of the staff should do something besides scowl at you.

Definitely reconsider.

“My 40th birthday at Atlantis was Wonderful!”

We spent 4 days in Atlantis as my 40th birthday present and just returned, Wednesday April 2nd.

A Lincoln Towncar was reserved to take us to the Coral Towers. On arrival at 5:30 p.m., we didn't have to wait in a line at all. We received room keys and went up to our room. My husband wanted a room with a better view and they had no problem changing our room to a view of the ocean and the Royal Towers. We could see everything from our balcony (great pictures day and night!). Again great and smiling service. We treated the service personnel with courtesy and respect and received as much back. Our server at the Lagoon Grill even hunted down a particular drink they did not have at hand from another facility, complete with apologies.

The room is exactly as expected. The brightly colored curtains are perfect for the location. I had also read all the complaints. The ground floor carpet was continually being dried, so the was a damp smell, (which is what you get when people are CONSTANTLY walking through with wet towels, shoes, bodies, etc.) Our room had a working safe, working TV (you can keep track of spending on it, too), and towels enough for a family of five! Hairdryer was included and worked perfectly and I have waist length THICK hair. We didn't use the morning paper, nor did we need the maid service first night and were left alone. Just the way I like it.

The grounds are unbelievable and I packed sneakers to go everywhere, so we hit the ground running first night. Tip: do the DIG after 8 p.m. or around 7 a.m. We took pictures everywhere without a single other person around but us. We encountered no lines at all for anything. The Current is a blast... a must do... The water rides started at 11:00 a.m. so we were at the beach by 8:45 and lounging.

About prices: the drinks cost the same as a high end cruise line. Honestly not a big deal and they pour HEAVY! The first night we ate the Seafood Buffet at the Waters Edge, $48.00 all you can eat. I didn't think that was out of line either. The same for the Marketplace, $48 for huge array of different cuisines to suit all tastes from Asian to Pizza. Tip: stop on the way in and get your own wine and a few 2 liter bottles of water. We had a wonderful French burgundy with dinner that were a little high and had the rest in our room or out and about in plastic cups (of course). We brought snacks for breakfast and something at the beach, only because I don't do hamburgers and hotdogs.

If you don't want crowds and such, we spent most of our time at Cove Beach underneath the lone palm tree. Makes you look like you're in a Corona commercial. No hair braiding, no watercraft , no babble, just the wind and the waves. ahhh paradise....

We don't gamble and we don't require waiting on hand and foot nor do we have children. We also don't do organized activities. I do my own thing, thank you. If you are like us, you will have an UNBELIEVABLE time.

“Birthday celebration at Atlantis”

Atlantis Coral Towers

8 Apr 2008

I recently traveled to Atlantis to celebrate my birthday with my family. Never having been there before and having heard what an amazing place it was I was naturally ecstatic about going. Now while I did have an AMAZING time there are some highlights and lowlights of our trip which I feel inclined to share with my fellow travelers.
Once having arrived at the resort, we checked in to our section of the Coral Towers and they told us we had been upgraded to an ocean view Villa (instead of the regular room we had paid for). They gave us a telephone number to call that would let us know when our room was ready, while we enjoyed the property. Unfortunately, when we arrived at our “Villa” it was only a bit bigger than a regular room, had absolutely no ocean view and was located so far from the main building that I literally needed a map just to get back to the main area. After much back and forth we were eventually given the room we paid for which had a spectacular view and was exactly what we needed. Why they tried to “upgrade” us is still a mystery to me. After that, the rest of our day was great. We enjoyed all the activities there are to do there and even had a great massage at the Spa. Dinner that night at the Italian restaurant (located in the Coral Towers) was absolutely delicious and the service from the wait staff was great unfortunately the meal/ alcoholic beverages and service at Chop Stix (the Oriental restaurant also in the Coral Towers) was not so good. That really was a shame since it was my actual birthday meal. The real drawback to both however is in the price of the food – the prices are simply outrageous. While I understand that there are other options to dine at the resort, when I’m on vacation (especially celebrating my birthday) I am not going to be eating pizza and ham & cheese sandwiches all day and I don’t think I am the only person who feels this way. Afterwards we visited the nightclub which truly is a lot of fun and I highly recommend; it was the perfect way to end the night and a great kick-start to my birthDAY.
The next day we enjoyed the different pools throughout the resort, lounged on the spectacular beach, traveled down the lazy river and tried to ride as many water slides as possible. The slides are really a lot of fun and the lines aren’t bad at all (a lot better than what I thought for the amount of guests there were). I did however experience an inconvenience at night; in the middle of my shower (with shampoo in my hair) I noticed the water getting weaker and weaker until it just wasn’t coming out at all. We immediately called for maintenance but after I turned it on and off a few times, the water finally came back at full strength. In a resort like this, that shouldn’t have happened. The rest of the night was great – without a hitch. We went to the DIG, which had a wide variety of sea life and truly was impressive, enjoyed the Casino and danced at the bar/dance area (since the nightclub was closed that day). The next day we had a great buffet meal (this was actually priced just right) and walked around the resort until it was time for our transportation to pick us up. All in all I have to say that I definitely had a great time and it is one of the best birthdays I have EVER had, but I am not oblivious to the fact that there are certain areas where Atlantis (and its staff/management) faltered and in that respect when weighing the price versus the value they need to regroup and work things details out. I would love to go back someday and hopefully be able to write a pristine review.

“Go once and you will never stay anywhere else in Nassau”

Atlantis is a beautiful hotel!!!
It is very commercial so if you want to experience Nassau, try and take a trip off Paradise Island and rent a car and drive all over Nassau. You can drive from one end to the next in just a few hours. I love Atlantis and would never stay anywhere else, but it doesn't represent Nassau or teach you the history and culture.
Leave the resort and meet some locals and eat at a local restaurant. My fav place to eat is Traveller's Rest. Its far from Paradise Island so try and rent a car and drive there or make friends with some locals and take them to dinner there. Its worth it.
Atlantis has amazing water rides and rapid river. The Cove Beach is my favourite as the water is calm and you can actually swim in it. I've stayed in the Royal and Coral towers and I have to admit that the Coral Towers is my favourite as its centrally located to everything. The underwater marine life on the resort is like nothing you will see anywhere else. Its my favourite hotel in the Bahamas and I promise you if you stay once, you will never want to stay anywhere else. :) Its worth the money.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at Atlantis Coral Towers. We had a very nice room with an ocean view. Loved spending early mornings and late evenings out on the balcony taking in the view of the Atlantis property. We had a fabulous vacation with lots to do. My 15 yr. old son loved Aquaventure and all of the water slides. I loved the river with the rapids - could have floated along all day!!! The Atlantis property is spectacular - loved the pools, the marine life and The Dig is amazing to walk through.
As most others have stated, the biggest downside is the cost of food and drinks - really outrageous prices....
We discovered a few places off the Atlantis property and we would go there for dinner. We really enjoyed a place called Zio Gigi's which is an Italian restaurant across the street from Marina Village. Great thin crust pizza! Much more reasonable than the restaurants at Atlantis. We also had a good dinner at Anthony's - sat out on the patio on a beautiful evening.
All in all we had a fabulous vacation at the Atlantis. We're very happy we went but not sure about returning as it is an extremely expensive trip. We'll probably try an all-inclusive on our next vacation.
