This is a 5 star, beautiful resort on the West End of Grand Bahama Island. My husband and I went there for a romantic getaway for 5 nights in April. The pictures on the website are EXACTLY what the property looks like--from the rooms to the views! The staff is very friendly and accomodating. It was quiet, relaxing and romantic. There are only 76 suites and the rooms are gorgeous, clean and comfortable.
Pool is really nice with a view of the ocean; food was good; beach was beautiful; water was very shallow (when we were there); excellent service. The resort is also a port that welcomes privatly owned yachts daily. Those are fun to see.
There are 3 places to eat-- the Sandbar near the pool and beach which closed at 5 pm. It was OK--sandwiches, burgers, etc. The Bonefish Folleys which is over by the dock which had a more diverse menu and it was good. The bartenders poored good drinks, too. We didn't go to the fancy restaurant, Aqua, next door to Bonefish b/c I didn't see too much of a menu difference and just didn't want to pay twice as much.
The one negative: it is really SECLUDED. Nothing else is out there but the resort. the property is not that big. It is a 30 minute drive from Freeport and Port Lucaya were all the nightlife, casino and clubs are. We rented a car through the resort which was $80 for the day (a crappy car but it worked) and spent the day at Port Lucaya in the Sheraton/Westin areas. Ginn sur Mer recently bought the Old Bahama Bay and 4,000 acres in the West End and are building an ENORMOUS resort that will have 2 golf courses, condos, hotels and a casino. That will definitely change the atmosphere of the area and you won't need to travel for nightlife.
I would recommend this resort to couples who don't need much entertaining and want a quiet, relaxed place. There were a few families there with kids when we were there but not sure it's the best place for kids since there's not much else to do (no banana boats, no jet skis, no parasailing--no motorized sports are at this resort). There is volleyball, kayaking, and a Hobie sailboat to take out.
