Location, location, location! This hotel is older, but well kept. It is about a 2 star quality...no frills, but the room was clean and the marina view is amazing (you can see the marina whether you have a "marina view" room or not). I'm a sucker for a swanky hotel, but I didn't mind this place. The location and the staff make it worth it. The beach and the casino are directly across the street, and shops, bars, and restaurants are next door. I would totally stay here again! If you're a hotel snob, stay across the street at the Sheraton or the Wyndym.

“Very Average”

Port Lucaya Resort & Yacht Club

Very average hotel. Room floor (tiles) were dirty although king size bed was very comfortable. Not much water pressure in the shower. Tub was dirty and unscrubbed. Provided 2 hand soap bars, and no shampoo (we had forgotten to pack shampoo so this was a problem). Luckily shops were close by so we were able to purchase some later.

Upon exiting the room on the last day of our stay the door lock broke as I shut the door (glad we were leaving at that point!). Oh did I mention the AC leaked into the room overnight. I awoke the second morning to find a huge slick of water stretching from the window across to under our bed- my shoes were soaked!!

On the bright side, the Olympic size swimming pool, attractions, the Bahamian people, restaurants and shops were great! I would return to Freeport but I would choose a different hotel such as i.e. Sheraton across the street. You know the old saying 'You get what you pay for' well it sometimes applies...

“Affordable and friendly!”

My boyfriend took me to the Bahamas for my birthday in November of 2006. We decided to cruise to the Bahamas with Discovery Cruise Lines and stay in Freeport for 4 days. We cruised during the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon arrival, the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and had a nice-sized balcony facing the marina. We sat on the balcony many days sharing drinks.

We decided to rent a car and tour the island. Freeport has many beautiful beaches with soft sand and crystal clear blue water. Every Wednesday and Friday, there is a fish fry that you definitely do not want to miss!!! If you decide to rent a car, just remember to STAY TO THE LEFT!!!

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are several restaurants to chose from close by in the Marketplace. You can also walk across the street to enjoy the beach area behind the Sheraton hotel. Beach access is free and there is a beachside restaurant which offers burgers, hot dogs, salads, and drinks.

The housekeeping staff was excellent.

I would recommend this hotel to all. I look forward to visiting again some day. It will not be in the near future because we would like to visit more islands of the caribbean prior to returning. Enjoy!!!

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel, as I am a hotel snob and nearly died as we were walking up to our "pepto-bismol pink" building. It was very CLEAN (which is a big worry for me), the atmosphere was friendly and a total bargain. The drinks were AMAZING (strong!) and the bartenders were great. Be sure to get the suvenier cup and keep filling it. I love d the little hot tub too, which didn't seem to close - ever.

My biggest issue was finding a good meal at Port Lucaya. I felt like my friend and I searched for days just to get decent food and finally found it at one of the big resorts on the island. I think if I ever went back, I would stay at the Westin/Sheraton, just so I could eat well.

The locals were super friendly!

The resort looked wonderful in all the photos. Close examination showed it's an older property. First impression left us a little bit disappointed; but the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff quickly changed our impression. The property is mostly clean and everyone there is always ready to meet your needs. Only complaint is that there are absolutely no comfortable chairs there! A comfy chair for the room or the porch would have been nice so one could just relax and read. The location is good, view of the marina is good from the upper rooms. Neither the resort nor the marketplace were crowded at all during the time we were there (last week of February).
