Departing the Airport in a TAXI , the driver had to ask a couple of co workers where RPSuites was located. Oh well he found it. First impression: Not bad looking. Surrounding locale was QUESTIONABLE.Hey folks I am aquainted with the back streets of B'more. Not a problem most natives /good attitude !. Rooms large, clean, nicely kept.Papertowels in kitch'd be nice.Little bar sink. Stayed on first floor by the clean ungaurded pool.Regular 530am alarm clock from the RED Snapper(rest.) employee filling his ice buckets for day ...right beside the pool.Bus Stop is close 7 minute (safe) walk. You keep the cab drivers honest. Question rates! Ask if he/she included the tip! Port Lucaya is where the "action" is.Did not try the restaurant in RPSuites. Went to Ruby Swiss restaurant.5 min. from hotel.NICE,however$$. I believe the Poyal Palm Suites is hoked up big time with Time Share/ and RCI. The person in the lobby opposite the registars desk was congenial and helpful until she realized we were not interested in a time share.Best bet for us when there ,was free shuttle to beach(XANADU) and back to hotel. Overall: Do yourself a favor stay in Port Lucaya for the extra couple of Bahamian dollares. Bon Voyage.

“A Great Deal”

Royal Palm Resort & Suites

We stayed there in Jan. 06, and were very worried after reading past reviews. When we were there, the whole place looked like it was just remodeled. The room was great, and included a mini frdige and a microwave. The pool was small but clean, and there weren't any bed bugs while we were there. They give you beach towels, but make sure you don't lose them. The on site restaurant is very convenient for breakfast and inexpensive by island standards.

The shuttle to Xanadu beach runs infrequently, and the beach itself is deserted (though once they fix the hotels on it I'm sure it will be busier). To save money on taxis, take the public buses. The are lots of stops (the Post Office is the closest stop to the hotel, about a 5 minute walk), and it costs $1 per person. I think they stop running at 7 or 8.

Port Lucaya was where most of the tourist stuff is, and is about 15 minutes away. The food is very expensive (15-?), but drinks were farily standard (6-10).

Overall, the hotel is isolated, but if money is a concern, you can stay there and take the buses where ever you want to go and still have a great trip.

Just got back from the "Royal Palm Resort", an exaggeration if ever there was one! This is more like a motel. It is used by cruise ship crews when they are in port. The beds in our room had bed bugs! We were bitten all over. All the staff could offer was a lame apology & a promise to see if they "fix it". This is a budget motel away from everything. It has a pool that had not been cleaned in days when we were there. It is a fair walking distance to any decent restaurant. A taxi ride to the beach was 20 minutes. My party ended up sharing taxis daily to Port Lucaya to eat & where we bought a day pass for $10 US at the "Westin on Port Lucaya". What a great place! Recommend you do the same. Stay at an inexpensive hotel & then get a day pass at the Westin!

“time share city!”

Royal Palm Resort & Suites

I loved the hotel BUT it took almost an hour to check in because the
reservationists were not only checking you in they were trying to sell you a
time share at the same time. After waiting in line for almost 1 hour, I got up
to the clerk. Began to check in and then she asked me if I wanted to get
discounts on tours (time share presentation)..I said I was not interested and
she put my stuff aside said that someone else will have to talk to me and asked
for the next person in line! I had 3 boys under the age of 14 with and it
was HOT!
anyway the manager FINALLY checked me in. The hotel was great for the money,
very clean. We liked being able to take the city bus for $1.00 everywhere we
went! You really get to see the "real" island that way. I also felt safe there
and was able to walk around. The place is very clean compared to Nassau which is in MHO
so poverty stricken and I can't figure out why because they have cruise ships
GALORE everyday! Show me the money!
the hotel I stayed at is the ROYAL PALMS....I would go back but check in would
be strickly with the manager or when the rush is over.

“Cute but not in great location”

This hotel is cute, our room had a bit of clever architecture with the way the room was set up. An example is an archway instead of your regular square shaped doorway inside. We had a king bed (tropical bedspread) in the bedroom, a small closet area (but big enough for our 4 days), a bathroom, a tiny dining area with a table. The lobby and courtyard are decorated nicely and the staff was friendly enough. Drinks(12 oz. cans) in the machine are $1. They can arrange tours for you right from their lobby. There is a small restaurant on the property called Red Snapper Restaurant, we had drinks there but did not eat. VERY simple though.
