Our trip to the Westin Our Lucaya in Freeport was nice and quiet and just what we needed to relax. The smaller planes from Nassau go to the Domestic airport, different from the International airport and we were told by the natives to make sure to return to the correct airport when we go home.
The hotel is not far away and is on the beach, very close to shopping, bars and a casino. Everyone we met was pleasant and helpful,
The grounds were clean and beautiful with a sign only pool bar that had a swim up section in the back.
The rooms were cleaned late the first days but improved later in the week with the increase of help.

Many water activities were nearby but we were happy just to sit, relax, and enjoy the windy but warm weather. The weather improved later in the week, we walked on the soft sand beach and enjoyed the padded lounge chairs.

We ate at the local restaurants near the wharf for breakfasts and dinners. I’m sure the hotel restaurants are good but pricey; we skipped the $20 breakfast buffet but tried the Prop Club for lunch and the China Grill for a pleasant dinner one night. The Med restaurant next to The Pub at the wharf was so good we went back the last night for another great meal. The soft shell crabs and homemade pasta/seafood combo were delicious as were the fresh bread. We also liked the great service inside and then outside on our last night.

The shopping area is good enough to walk around and find almost everything from perfume to jewelry. At the bars you could get shots of anything, fancy drinks and 2 beers for $5, half the price of at the hotel if you don’t mind everybody smoking, Sitting outside at the Rum Runner I smoked a good cigar and met some nice people having a good time.
When asked how I’m doing, the response was “Better than working!”
The casino is between the hotels with tables and slots. My wife and I lost our money until the last day when we won it all back. Not Vegas but better than nothing. By the way, only visitors can gamble, and the dealers were nice most of the time.

We had a good vacation at the Westin and would go back one day. Getting to and from D.C. took 3 planes and all day but it was worth it.

I spent 4 nights at the Westin coming straight from staying at the Bellagio in las Vegas.
I thought the Westin was very average. The room was ok, the bathroom needed work. The grounds were nice, the pools were ok. A lot of floating stuff and seagulls bobbing around on them though.
I found that the staff were really hit or miss, they were either generally very nice or the opposite end of the spectrum and just didn't care at all.
I was very unimpressed with the restaurants, and the prices were horrendous. China Grill is the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted. I suppose that's what you get if you eat at a chinese restaurant on an island in the caribbean.
I am very unafraid of paying high prices for food and drinks, but I expect to get good quality.
Will not go back to the Westin, It wasn't bad, it just didn't do anything at all to impress me. Like i said, everything was ok, but very average.

We will go back. This is not Maui or Bermuda 5 star quality, but it does have its unique feel. We were at Lighthouse Point, very satisfied with the grounds, room and beach. 98%of staff we encountered were nice and helpful.
To us , the charm is it is totally relaxing if you want. We were there 4 days and were only in a car from and to airport. I unplugged the laptop and we had 4 great days of doing nothing. Across the street is the marina with restaurants, bars and shops. We ate lunch 4 days in a row at La Med, outdoors and looking at yachts. We had 3 delightful dinners at some of the other places. Also had a nice meal at China Beach at the hotel. The tennis courts are fine.
If you want South Beach action, this is not the place. If you want to relax, chill out, and enjoy the Caribbean rhythm, you will enjoy this place.

“So much better than the reviews stated”

I had spent some time before our trip reading the reviews about the Westin. I was quite nervous and was expecting the worst. When we arrived, we did not encounter a rude or mean person the entire time we were there. Every person we walked by that was employed by the Westin greeted us very kindly. We stayed in Lighthouse Pointe and it had a beautiful view. They seemed to take very good care of the hotel room. They did a great job of cleaning every day! We went on the dinner cruise and the Dolphin Experience. Each activity was a blast.

Needless to say, don't believe everything you read and expect a great time! We didn't want to come home!

Great hotel and great people!

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to the Bahamas. Using our Starwood points we decided to stay at the Westin Lucaya in Freeport, GBI. The hospitality upon our arrival was superb. The front desk checked us in and within 15 minutes we were unpacking in our room. Upon obtaining our room key we received a map of the Westin grounds. Unfortunately the Front Desk clerk did not tell us which way to go once we received our key. He instructed us to go outside and follow the walkway. However, there are three or four buildings with rooms so therefore we walked around aimlessly for a few minutes longer than expected. The weather was nice outside so we didn't mind being stuck outside longer than normal, considering we just dodged the snowstorm in the morning which closed O'hare's Airport.

Our room was on the third floor of the Lighthouse Point and overlooked the ocean. The view from our room was just spectacular!!! We had a two room suite with a master bed and between the view and the room you couldn't beat it. I was a little disappointed that the televisions at the hotel are the old style and are not HDTV or widescreen. The room itself was clean and orderly. We were pleased to see a small refridgerator and a microwave. However, I noticed that there was only one spoon for both of us to share but several knifes and forks. Anyhow, we made due with what we had.

The Westin's workout facilitiy was great!!! It had windows overlooking the property and you could see the ocean from there. In addition, the facility was just located down the hallway from our room. However, if you are stay at Breaker's Cay I would dread the walk there as it would probably take you 10 minutes. My wife and I didn't use the spa on the lower levels but were quite please with the overall appearance and equipment. The best thing was this facility was free to all its guests.

The grounds at the Westin were well kept. The lounge chairs had soft cushions on all of them, except for the ones by the ocean. There was never a time when we couldn't find a place to sit and relax. We walked the beaches several times from each channel and the beach was clean and raked. I am amazed at how soft the sand is there on this beach. My only complaint about the Westin grounds was that the pools are not heated. The pool between the Lanai Suites and the Lighthouse Point was just freezing!!! The ocean water was much warmer than the pool water. We were told that because the pool is above ground it cannot keep heat. My thoughts were that it can't keep heat because the water is so cold. I couldn't even swim in the pool for more than 3 minutes before i had to hop out.

We rented a jeep from a local business for a day. The companies rent their vehicles in blocks of 24 hours. We picked up or jeep on tuesday afternoon and took a drive out to the Lucayan National Park. This is a place to visit. Very cool caves along with an awesome beach. I recommend going at low tide as if you go during high tide the beach won't be that spectacular. We also drove to High Rock/Point and had a rummer runner at Bishops. I was surprised that the price for this drink at Bishops was a buck more than what the Marketplace vendors charge. We were the only individuals there and perhaps that is the reason why.

On the second day we had our jeep we ended up driving out to the West End and seeing Gins Ser Mur, or what is there right now. Its quite a sight to see what they plan on doing on there property. On the way back we decided to stop at Paradise Cove and do some snorkeling. The air temperature was in the low 70's and it was sunny out. The only downfalls were that the wind was blowing and the water was cool, however, warmer than the Westin pools. We ended up staying out on the beach and snorkeling there for about 4 hours. Could have stayed longer but we needed to get the jeep back by 3pm. Some individuals got biten by bugs the day before; however, we came out unscathed. If you have a group of people (4 or more), i highly recommend renting a car for the day and going out there on your own. The cost to rent and split the car between the four of you ($65) is much less than paying the $35 for each of you and getting stuck on a bus to take you there....just a personal preference.

My wife and I would consider going back to Freeport in the future; however, I think I would rather check out some more tropical area to visit. Our temperatures during our stay were in the 60's and 70's. It rained for the first three of four days we were there and we were stuck in our room. In addition, it was also very windy everyday there, except for the last day, which was almost 78 and sunny. On that day we could have used the wind.

If you decide to go make sure you check out the Marketplace. Buy your breakfasts there or even take a publc bus to the City Market grocery store. You can buy everything from food to alcohol there and store it in your room. The hotel doesn't mind that you bring back food unlike some others that will not allow you.

Overall the Westin Lucaya was a nice place to stay. It was above average but wasn't excellent. Enjoy your trip.
