“A little piece of paradise”

Seascape Inn

16 Apr 2008

We have just come back from a wonderful week of vacation at Seascape Inn. Our bungalow was simple but very comfortable and spotlessly clean. You could tell that Joan had taken great care to furnish the bungalows nicely. From the thick fluffy towels, to the little cushions and the laundry basket with colors matching the general white, blue and green color scheme.
We loved having breakfast in the main building high up on the stilts with a great view out over the water. Joan is a great baker and we had different freshly baked pastries every morning. And we enjoyed the dinners prepared by Mickey in the evening, especially the steak.
Both Joan and Mickey were extremely gracious and heart warm hosts. We profited from their great knowledge of the area, if it was for places to eat or where to go snorkel or to learn about how the blue holes had developed. We liked the Seascape Inn from the beginning, and we liked it better every day that passed. It felt like home.

Mangrove Cay feels like it's bypassed by the worries and hustle and bustle of life in general. The people are very friendly and welcome you to be part of their community even if it's only for a short time. We spent our days reading books in the hammocks, kayaking and snorkeling until the cool water of the blue holes made us shiver, riding the bikes up and down the one road in the nice warm breeze, waving to everyone, stopping for drinks and snacks, listening to the local gossip, watching the fishermen bring in the conchs, and taking in as much of the amazing turquoise color of the water as possible.

I do not have stories to tell of all the great and exciting things I did during my vacation. I have a wonderfully happy heart filled with images of a perfect island vacation and a big smile on my face.

Don't go if
- fancy restaurants are important to you
- you like to be entertained
- you are looking for night life
- you like to live a snap-snap life style

Do go if
- you are looking for a beautiful place to unwind
- you like to snorkel or bird watch or fish
- you like to meet wonderfully friendly and warm people
- you want to try fabulously fresh conch salad prepared right in front of you
- you enjoy discovering the little wonders in life

It is a little piece of paradise. And I very much hope to be back some time.

PS. Do try Mickey's homemade ice cream! Delicious!

“Laid back and peaceful”

Seascape Inn

28 Dec 2007

I have visited the Seascape Inn twice this year [in May and Dec 07] and intend visiting it again next year.
I enjoy the peaceful, relaxed and laid back times you experience on the beautiful island of Mangrove Cay, which is part of Andros Island. Micky and Joan McGowan [the owners] are a very friendly and nice couple who always bend over backwards to help you. The cabanas are nicely laid out and very clean. Not only is Micky a gourmet chef but regularly make his own ice cream [various flavours] which puts the Haagen-Dazs Caramelized Pear and Toasted Peanut product to shame.
The fishing on Andros is world renowned. I caught my first bone fish on the flats which are directly in front of the hotel. The nearby blue holes [submarine cave systems] are very fascinating to snorkel over. In fact there are several holes you can walk out to on the low tide.
Whether you want adventure or just a quiet place to chill out in, this has got to be the location to head for!

Filled with vintage charm, the Seascape Inn is more relaxing than home! Great Hosts, food and company provided a peaceful recovery from the strains of work. Take a book and a bathing suit and just enjoy doing as much or as little as you want away from the glare of Nassau etc. Joan and Mick will provide wonderful meals, clean rooms and privacy. Enjoy the snorkling, swimming, kayaking, fishing, bike riding, walking and hunting for shells. Our several visits in the past 4 years shows how WONDERFUL our vacations at the Seascape Inn have been. We look forward to the next one...our second this year. J and J

This was the third time my husband and I have visited Andros and stayed at Seascape Inn with Mickey and Joan McGowan. Seascape Inn is a very special place. Mickey and Joan make you feel right at home. It's a very charming and relaxing atmosphere. Mickey and Joan treat their guests as if they were family, not just paying guests. It's very rare to find that these days. The food is great! Joan bakes at least three kinds of muffins each day as part of the continental breakfast (which is included in the price of the room.) Mickey is an excellent cook, and will pretty much prepare anything you want for dinner. I highly recommend Seascape Inn. My husband and I plan to return on a regular basis.

Our family went to the Seascape Inn in April. We had a terrific time. Mickey and Joan were great hosts. It was a perfect getaway. If you want to have a very relaxing private secluded vacation, this is the place. There are literally miles of deserted beaches. All the locals are very friendly. It is truly paradise.
