“Don't believe everything you read!”

Fernandez Bay Village

Overall I would say that FBV was a good vacation but after reading the reviews on this site I would say, "beware fellow travellers, don't believe everything you read".
Let me start off with the positives:
The beach - it really is everything that you can imagine and more, the water was great, snorkelling plentiful, plenty of space to be on you own.
Donna - she is fantastic and can handle anything and everything that you throw are her. She was very accomodating and really nice to deal with. She was off for a couple of days and you could tell the difference.
The views: the sunsets are fantastic and the vistas are impressive.
The ho-hums:
The food - very basic. Grouper every night! In looking at the website it really isn't as good as that. We didn't expect much so we weren't dissapointed. The breakfast is below average, lunch is mediocre and the dinner was OK.
The island - very basic again - we didn't consider this a negative, it was what we were looking for so it was fine. If you want a souvenior take pictures because you can't buy anything on the island.
The negatives:
The cleanliness of the facility. Our room was cleaned daily but it never felt clean. Our porch wasn't cleaned the entire trip. I'm all for rustic but I don't want dirty.
The amenities: the garden bathroom is fine. The shower wasn't. Didn't have a hot shower all week. On occasion we had a warm shower but that was the best we could get.
The resort: it felt like the resort hasn't had money spent on it in years. Our room had a leak. Overall it wasn't well maintained and the aesthetics werent pleasing.

Overall we thought that FBV was OK. The pro's defiantely helped to try and balance out the cons. I guess the easiest litmus test is whether we will be back......the answer is probably not.

We spent our honeymoon at Fernandez Bay, and it was amazing! It is definitely a place for those looking to completely unwind and get away from it all. The grounds were meticulously kept, and the cabanas simple and airy. Despite the simple architecture, the resort had a luxurious feel to it. The waters and beaches were pristine and private. The resort had kayaks, snorkel gear and bikes for use. Many people came to the resort via their sailboats. Dinners were wonderful buffets that started with passed appetizers on the patio near the bar. It was an opportunity to socialize with the other guests, who you rarely saw any other time. Cat Island had no nightlife (although we didn't look for it, either). It is a paradise in simplicity and beauty. This resort was the best we found on the island (although Sammy T's is also supposed to be wonderful but much smaller). I would highly recommend this resort to anyone in desperate need of relaxation, delicious food, and beautiful surroundings.

“Semi secluded bliss”

We went to FBV in search of total relaxation. We got it ! No phones, tvs, radio just an island, good food and good company. We stayed on the beautifull sandy beach most of the time but did venture on a short 3 hr fishing trip with Mark the onsite guide with whom we hooked a few small fish and 15lb Barracuda which was alot of fun . Donna the humurous all knowing concierge is great and literally will set you up with whatever you want ! The frogs in our semi open shower each day were a source of entertainmant . In the mornings it was not uncommon to find one nestled next to your shampoo bottle. Our room had an efficient / modern /quiet air conditioned wall unit that made for a comfortable sleep. Living room and kitchen were cooled by balmy shaded breezes. Bikes are free on the property for the adventurous. We rode a little and were greeted by double toots of the horns of locals driving by - sharing the road. Kayak out to the rocks in front of the beach for a little reef snorkeling. Watch out for sea urchins as they can be a painfull surprise if stepped on or kicked. Food served nightly while slightly expensive- we thought was great ...good basic recipes prepared well...basic fish, meat dish other nights, bread, salad etc. Breakfast and lunch are moderately priced but fine. Honor bar is a big hit outside the dining room and a common meeting place for colorfull guests to chat before and after dinner. While not for everyone due to the semi rustic nature and character of the property which includes biting insects outside of your rooms and unique rooms with semi open showers we thought it was an awesome place abounding with character and characters. We cant wait to go back and see our new friends again ................... FBV - DONT CHANGE A THING........

If you are doing your homework and researching the web, i hope that this review will help you. If you have read everything about FBV, and still thinking about it, well all i can say is i hope my review will help you make your decision. My wife and I just got back and are now looking forward to return again real soon.
We stayed at Tamarind suite which was a stone throw away to everything which was good. The beach is awesome, the bay is just as great as it sounds. This is a place for you and signficant other to unwind and relax. There were kids during our stay which were not an problem cause we didn't hear them at all. In fact during the day we did not really see any other guests till supper time. The meals were good, enough to eat and not to bad for an limited menu on an island.

So if you need some time with your signficant other and looking for a place to renew it well this is just what you might need. No tv,no phone, no cell phone sevice which was ok by us to just get away from it all. There is internet access in the lobby to e-mail home to make sure you got there other then that say good-bye till you return from your trip.
I know why we must keep it a secrect for those who already been here, i will now enjoy those memories forever till i return.
Everyone is very friendly and the staff as well, Donna helped me out by making me a bouquet of flowers one night for me to give to my wife. Thank you so much Donna!!!
As for the night life just use bug spray real good and your all set, other then that we didn't have a problem with bugs. I would also use sunscreen or sun blocker cause i came home with a bad burn.( my fault) The shower is outside which yes, you will get used to it but very different we liked it.
My wife and I left feeling relaxed, recharged, and best of all having time for us again. That was important between running around and doing our things during the week we wanted a chance to just be us again this helped us on our trip.
Spending time with the one you fell in love with then FBV is for you. Please let's keep this on a down low and not tell everyone what a wonderful place this is..sorry but it's our secrect.

I enjoy photography please enjoy..the sunsets are the best!!

I really shouldn't be recommending this slice of paradise because I don't want it to be ruined by too many people and too many changes. Tony Armbrister is a true gentleman and runs the property as if his family owned it for 300 years - they have! Everyone was cordial, helpful and cheerful. We booked an entire villa with full kitchen, living room, patio, and two bedrooms and two baths - for a very reasonable price. I really appreciated the good water pressure and hot water for showers - they have a privacy wall but are open to the fresh air. Fresh fluffy towels delivered each day and air conditioners helped melt away all stress and care. The beach was white powder and the water gin clear with a sandy bottom out for 200 yards. Meals were home cooked by local Cat Island women, and were beyond my expectation in flavor and variety.
We're going to make FBV an annual tradition.
