We were at the Landing for three nights last week. We liked our room. Bed was comfortable and pretty, AC in room worked well, outfitted with chairs, towels and umbrellas. Bathroom was plain, maybe dated, but all white and clean. They are supposed to be retrofitting with better (tiled? new?) tubs and showers this fall.
We were visiting Harbour Island to scout out a destination wedding venue in the spring. We had informed them of this when we made our reservations. When we checked in they were nice and told us breakfast was included in our room, and that their restaurant would be serving Sunday brunch, but we could go to two other spots to get b'fast on the hotel. They printed this out on a Welcome (insert name here) paper and gave it to us.
The next morning, we went down and noticed the restaurant was open so we asked if we could eat there. They said no, our rate didn't include b'fast so we left and went to one of the places listed on our sheet. After we ordered, our waitress at the Dunmore Deli said the Landing called and they were not authorized to serve us b'fast on the hotel. So we went back to the hotel and ordered there thinking this would all be sorted out when the manager came on duty.
When the manager arrived she came down and apologized for all the confusion, but that she had been wrong to offer us b'fast, it wasn't in our rate, and they would pay for it that morning (for our trouble) but no other. BUT, she then said I re read your booking form and it says you are interested in planning your wedding here come talk to me later and we would REALLY LOVE to take care of that for you. I just found it rude and gauche. Later, we were having wine on the porch (alone) when the manager told us she was still free to discuss our wedding. We then felt obligated to talk to her, but she told us basically we needed to hire a local wedding planner and she recommends Ben (who was nice when we spoke with him - contact through Ocean View Club). And that they just basically had two options either a passed hors d'ouveres cocktail hour or a seated 5 course dinner but they only shut down restaurant for 40 or more and otherwise you would be in open with other diners. So we didn't act interested ( we thought) but later in the trip the chef from the landing approached us about going ahead and planning our menu (um, no thank you?) and he said the manager told him we were ready to take care of it.
Another note - we didn't get the free breakfast because we didn't ask for it when we booked our room. Be sure and ask iy uou are interested and if they are running any specials as room rates are often less than on website. And just so you know, breakfast entrees are $15 to $22 apiece plus another $12 for juices and bottled water.
Negatives aside, this hotel is very quiet. Grounds are excellent for peaceful stay, much less so if you want other people in the bar, att he dining room at b'fast, or by the pool. We rarely saw anyone else.
FYI we are mid 30's couple who travel often and love good food, spa and are sociable.
