“lovely time out on the Orkney Islands”

Lovely newly built bed and breakfast that is very tastfully decorated. The farmhouse is surrounded by farm animals, including horses, sheep and ducks. It has incredible views from the rooms and beautiful surroundings. The rooms have en suite bathrooms and are large, very clean and comfortable. Full English breakfast is provided in the mornings. Ideal place to stay for a long weekend to visit the magnificent Orkney Islands.

Northfield Bed and Breakfast is new, modern and welcoming. Breakfast is provided with a grand view and entertainment of the ducks in the pond! The rooms are beautiful and there is a guest area that you can sit and have a glass of wine in the evening. Susan and Hugh are most welcoming. Thank you

“Can't recommend Northfield highly enough”

Instead of a full summer holiday this year, I only had time for a 'mini break' and decided to travel to Orkney with my teenage daughter. We were so well catered for at Northfield that we felt all the benefits of a much longer holiday! The accommodation is first class - easily the best I've stayed in - the location spectacular and the breakfasts are delicious and generous. Susan and Hugh made us feel so at home from the minute we arrived, and went much further than the extra mile to make sure we got the most out of our first visit to the islands. We have wonderful memories of our time at Northfield, and we'll certainly be back in the future.

“A truly amazing outlook”

The location is awesome and the room we had allowed us to view sunset and sunrise over the Northern Islands. The interior competes well with the wonderful outside views. A modern new build with an oak frame produces the character of exposed beams which is complemented by some nice old pieces of oak furniture strategically placed to blend well with the new interiors. Full length windows allow light to flood in to the oak floored sitting/ dining room and the whole house is kept warm with underfloor heating in all rooms. The bathrooms are first class, we had an excellent shower in our en - suite.
The service was excellent, we had a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Susan will provide a packed lunch which means you can explore the nearby beach to go seal spotting or walk up to Mull Head to see Puffins.
Unfortunately we only managed to stay one night because they were booked up for the rest of our short holiday. If you want to see how nice it is visit their web-site http://www.orkneybedandbreakfast.com/ which gives a nice 'flavour' of the place. Lastly don't put off - book early!

“Most comfortable B&B in the Orkneys”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2009

On a three week trip throughout Ireland, Scotland and England, Northfield was by far the most comfortable B&B we stayed in. It is a newly built house with huge bedrooms, wonderfully comfortable beds, modern bathrooms (the floor in ours was heated) and incredible views from any of the windows. Hugh and Susan were welcoming and helpful, more than ready to take time out from their own busy schedules to chat about life in the Orkneys. Breakfast was excellent with fresh eggs from their own hens and there were ducks in the front and sheep and horses in the back for the kids to visit. The B&B might appear on the map to be out of the way from the bulk of the attractions on the Mainland, but the distances on the Mainland are actually not that great, and the views from the house and solitude in the evenings made it well worth being a bit off the beaten path. It was perfectly located for spending an evening at the Gloup and Mull Head or driving to the south to see the Churchill barriers after dinner. It is also very close to Kirkwall with it's wonderful shops and sightseeing. This was our second, and hopefully not our last trip to the Orkneys, and when we return, it will definitely be to stay at Northfield again. Cannot recommend it enough!!
