Espiritu Baja picked us at our hotel -they were super punctual- and the driver was kind and cheerful. He drove us to their HQ where they were ready to help us gear up for the adventure. The staff quickly gave us the wetsuits that fit us as well as the fins. They were very helpful with my 11-year-old son and helped him figure out what suit could fit him (not too easy as he's rather tall). As soon as we were ready, we simply crossed the boulevard and the "Malecon" to the beach, always escorted by our guide Sergio. The boat was waiting for us. We set out for the open sea and Jesus -our captain- quickly spotted two whale sharks. His well-trainned eye immediately made him tell us "Let's look for a larger one, plus, those were not too quiet". After a couple of minutes of delightful views, Jesus spotted an eight-metre whale shark, he circled her and stopped the engine. Sergio helped my son with the mask and the snorkel and patiently instructed him how to use it (it was his first time in three years). We jumped into the cold water, but quickly gut used to the temperature. The humongous creature was barely two metres away from us. We were able to see her up close. It was the greatest eco-experience we have had as a family. We felt safe and looked after all the time; both, Sergio and Captain Jesus kindly answered all our questions and Sergio even took some great pictures (I will upload some as soon as I get back home). We are surely going back for more with Espiritu & Baja Tours! We're looking forward to watching the grey whales and visiting Espiritu Santo Island next time as this was a rather quick and improvised adventure -we were in La Paz on business, actually-. Totally recommendable!
