Las Cabanas is the perfect home base for a happy and stress-free Mexico vacation. We stayed for a week and, after looking at all the other choices, we're convinced that it's the best place to stay in Loreto. The location is perfect if you want to stay in town and avoid the insularity of the resorts to the south, yet want a quiet and clean refuge. The pool area with shared tables, cooking areas, and hammocks is so clean, attractive, and nicely landscaped that we ended up spending several afternoons lounging around there. Yet it's steps to the beach and the malecon, and very close to good restaurants with sunset views. The rooms are nicely furnished and come with everything you need. The host and hostess, Rick and Jill, are extremely helpful and pleasant, and full of great information generously shared. They know the best places to eat, the best panga boat to rent, where to snorkle, which beaches are best, plus many tips about San Javier and Mulege side-trips. There is considerable turnover in restaurants in Loreto and most of our guidebooks were in need of updating, so it's great to have locals who have the most updated information. Frankly, I can't think of one thing about Las Cabanas that needs improving; we would come back again without hesitation. On a side note, same-sex couples might like to know that my partner and I were treated very graciously; this is the non-issue that we like to think it should be everywhere.
