If you’re looking for a clean, modern, quiet and safe accommodation in Nogales, Sonora Mexico you’ll find it at the Nogales Fiesta Inn (we booked one night in July 2007 through Expedia for $70/night plus tax).
Located just south of town next to an industrial park, the Fiesta Inn is built to meet the needs of business travelers during weekdays, and tries to cater to families on weekends.
Rooms are smartly appointed, although a little small in size. All the standards are found: Iron board (hooked to the Iron with an anti theft metal rod –Why?? when the Iron that they have in the rooms are so cheap! WOW theft must be high), TV with cable (mostly Spanish channels, the standard CNN, plus a number of movie channels with Spanish subtitles). The bathroom has a shower which is enclosed in a nice mar mol cubicle (no bath in our room). The hair dryer did not work and to get a solution it required some heavy pushing of the staff on call (A note to Mexican hotel owners – LEARN TO EMPOWER YOUR MANAGERS). Free Wireless internet (fast and good) is accessible in the room as well as throughout the property. Our two double beds were smaller than the standard doubles found in the US. The beds’ mattresses were a little hard but typical of mattresses found at most hotels that I visited in Mexico – suitable for a short stay. The A/C was quiet and after a while got popsicle cold; once we got a hang of it, the temperature gage allowed us to set it at our optimal level. The walls were a bit thin. We tried to take an afternoon nap but were unable due to screaming kids in the room above and the two next to ours. Luckily at night the hotel was very quiet. Try to get a room on the top floor with no noise neighbors.
The breakfast buffet was excellent with plenty hot and cold items, made to order eggs, and a variety of juices, and coffee. Sitting is in a pleasant dining room with large windows that face the pool and garden (The garden is amazing green and a nice reprieve from the dry and arid landscapes of Sonora – kudos to management here; to keep it this green must require tons of effort.
There's an adjacent area with comfortable couches and love seat where you can work on your wireless computer or view sports on a large flat screen TV while enjoying your choice of beverage. On weekends they have a kids club in this area between 9am and 2pm where you can drop your kids (for supervise coloring, and games-my kids loved it) while you get your room ready for check out, or else??
The pool is suitable for children although if the children are past toddler age, it’s too small to keep them entertained for more than a few minutes. Another suggestion to Fiesta Inn management, make the pools larger. I would cut the garden size and make the pool long enough for lap swimming, and wide enough to separate one third for a lap line and the rest for playing. The area at the garden is large enough and the view of the water from the dining area would make for a calming and relaxing effect for the dinners sitting in the restaurant.
The 24 hour fitness room consisted of four pieces of cardio machine (Two Bikes and Two treadmills) and a Universal weight machine. My suggestion here is to replace one of the bikes for a Precor oscillator or similar oscillating unit. The fitness room’s TV is located in armoire which makes it accessible only to the guest using one of the treadmills. I would suggest that the TV is moved and placed on a hanging roof pedestal.
The hotel is a ways out of downtown (five to ten minutes by car) with very little to do around the hotel. Nevertheless this makes the hotel quieter than the other hotels in the Nogales downtown area. If you’re like a modern, very clean, safe, family friendly property in Nogales, Mexico then the Fiesta Inn is your best choice.
