We were in Acapulco for 9 days in January and stayed at the Pierre Marques. This was our second visit in 5 years. Our room was in one of the main buidlings on the second floor and we overlooked the pool and the Pacific. Our room was very clean and well kept the whole time. Every staff member was friendly and accomodating to the best of their ability (sometimes hampered by the language barrier)The pool is very nice and it is a plus to be able to have access to the Princess facilities as well. Their workout room is nicer than the Pierre's, for instance.I would definitely stay there again. I like the relaxed feel of the hotel. There are no loud deejays barking out comments and playing music by the pool to entertain the guests. The whole mood of the place is pretty laid back.

The negatives I will mention were :
I know this sounds petty, but the wait staff around the pool was not as efficient or customer service oriented as in the past. I spent a lot of time looking for a waiter and that was not the case on my last visit. If we ordered food, then the waiter delivered it but never came back to check if there was anything needed, etc.
Every Saturday night, there is a very loud party with a band and huge speakers held on the public beach which sits adjacent to the Pierre. This was the case on the Saturday we were there. fireworks were also a part of the "festivities" which lasted until about 3 am. The hotel is evidently used to dealing with this(but cannot keep it from happening) because they moved anyone who asked to another room farther away (via golf cart and just for the night) to accomodate them. Our room was about midway between the party and the farthest point away and the band sounded like it was on our balcony- no kidding. It only happened one night though so that is a plus.(and we didn't ask to move. I can only imagine what it was like for those who stayed on that end of the property!)
Another petty point, when we were there 4 years ago, the view to the water was fairly unobstructed. You could sit by the pool and look straight out to the beach and the water. Now, the hotel has erected grass huts that guests can sit under and enjoy the beach from. However, it does kind of mess up the nice view of the water for hotel guests on the actual property. Not a big negative, but one difference I noted.
Overall, I think the Pierre is a nice place to stay. It is a relaxing and easy atmosphere. Several of the guests I met, stay there for a couple of months each year!

“Great hotel in good spot”

We've just spent 3 days at this great hotel, prior to taking a cruise out of Acapulco.

It is set in a charming spot two bays south of the city - nearer to the airport (but not too near!!!).

We were given a beautiful room in the main (central) building, overlooking one of the swimming pools and the Pacific. The room was beautifully appointed, clean and well maintained. Check-in (at 11 pm) was straightforward and quick - from the moment our plane wheels touched the ground at the airport to us opening our cases in our room was just 55 minutes.

We found the staff very polite, knowledgeable and courteous. We also had some very good meals there.

One point, however, already mentioned by someone else: join the Fairmont Club (free) before you go. There are member benefits which include totally free in-room wireless internet.

Acapulco: although our 5th visit to Mexico, this was our first to this city. Coming from Europe - so with Spain on our doorstep - we did not find Acapulco anything special (other than one big traffic jam). We've just been in Marbella, Spain, for a few days and it has far more "style" than Acapulco. Likewise Nice and Cannes in France.

Our family of 4 (2 teenage daughters) stayed at the Marques over the Christmas/New Years week. I think only because it was that week, we were forced to take a meal plan. The hotel did a great job keeping things running over probably their busiest week of the year. Despite most of the pool chairs having books on them, the pool staff was always able to find us 4 chairs in the shade. Most of the meals were buffet, and most of the food was very good. We drank bottled water, but used ice and brushed our teeth with tap water and no one got sick. The sister hotel, the Princess was an easy walk down the beach, and we did use their pool one day. That hotel was larger, consequently the pool area was a little more crowded, but they had a water slide and swim up bar so it was fun for one day. We decided to forgo our meal plan one night and ate at Las Brisas. The view is breathtaking, food is very good, but as expensive as you'd pay in Boston. Again, could have had higher prices because of the holiday week.

Several things you might want to know - the hotels cannot keep the beaches private, so a lot of day-trippers show up on the beach in front of the hotels. The hotel is a long way out of town. We knew that and figured we'd just stay put, but we ended up hiring a taxi one day, and then just stayed with that driver for the rest of the trip. The taxi drivers will take you anywhere for $20/hr, and wait while you shop or watch the cliff divers. During Christmas week the traffic was REALLY bad. It took us about an hour and a half to get from the hotel to the cliff divers. Unlike someone else who left a review, I would recommend you pay the $18 and watch from La Perla. They have great tables terraced on the cliff, and you get 2 drinks included. You can feel like a movie star in the 1960s. Walmart is a 20 minute walk down the street from the Marques, only 10 minutes if you are staying at the Princess. It's open 24 hours, so if you like to go for a morning walk, you can walk there and get your water, etc. Most of the walk is on hotel property, by the golf course. Only a very short distance across the street after you leave the property. And don't forget to join the (free) President's club for free internet. Lastly, just as we were boarding the American Airlines flight to come home, there was another security check where our hand baggage was hand searched and everyone had all liquids taken away, even if you bought it inside security. We just lost a couple waters we had just bought, but one couple lost 2 bottles of champagne.

All in all, I think the hotel was very well run, staff did a great job during a stressful week. I've stayed in more luxurious rooms, but we all enjoyed our stay, even the teenagers, which is saying a lot.

“Wonderful Hotel!”

The Fairmont Pierre Marques

My husband & I spent Sept 27-Oct 3rd '07,at The Pierre Marques, Acapulco for our 40th anniv. We had wanted to go there 40yrs ago but didn't. I'm sure that we enjoyed it more now!! The staff here & also the Acapulco Princess were terrific!
A big concern of mine was the safety of the drinking water! My 'fears' were eliminated when the welcome staff told us that it's the law that hotels have safe drinking water. So I had fresh vegetables, fruit and even drank from the faucet ! My medicine for "montezuma's revenge" came home with me--not needed.
The hotel, beach & restaurants are beautiful, clean and staffed with friendly people that we enjoyed talking with. They spoke much better english than we spoke spanish !!
The consierge was very helpful in helping to set up a tour of Old Acapulco.
My husband thought the condition of the gold course was excellent!
It was a most memorable trip! thanks to All

My husband and I wanted to get away and relax. No tours, no coordinating schedules. We could not have picked a better spot. The FPM is a retreat where all the staff treated us kindly. Everyone referred to us by our names- which made the relaxation vacation even more special. The oceanside room was large, modern and nicely appointed (although a bit musty smelling due to the humidity). Housekeeping was efficient and thorough. Excellent water pressure. The restaurants on site were OK, being able to use the amenities at the Princess next door gave additional variety- although the food there was just OK too. The prices for everything are resort like- so if you are going to complain about $12 for a salad then you'll be complaining the entire time. I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone looking to get away.

Things to be prepared for- taxis need to be taken everywhere. $10 RT to go to the Walmart for snacks/soda/water/sunscreen at a lower cost. $40 to go to downtown- which we did one afternoon to see the cliff divers- just go to the observation deck- pass on the lunch/dinner/ drinks tours. We also took a "cultural tour" with Roberto of Mauritour which was enjoyable for us- others may find it boring. We were not into the discos or late night staying out- but we did enjoy a few drinks nightly at the hotel bars at both the FPM or the Princess. We had a great vacation just relaxing by the pools.

Join the Fairmont President's Club for the free internet access before you go.
