“cocabana not so bad”

Copacabana Beach Hotel

30 Apr 2008

We were in Acapulco in Jan 2008, I read the reviews on the Cocabana Hotel and they were not real great I was worried but the price we recieved for all inclusive was worth the try. We had a wonderful time, the food was better than some places I have been in Mexico on the all inclusive. our room was nothing spectacular but clean. The waiters on the beach were wonderful to us. The hotel does cater to the locals on the weekends so there is no chance at getting in the pool but it was clean. I came down with Pnemonia while there and the staff was very helpful with medical information. An american women at the airport saw that we stayed at the Cocabana and she too had read the reviews and was worried so booked somewhere else. Her beach was closed the whole week and ours was not. Overall we had a wonderful vacation and I would stay there again for the price

“Copa fun for spring breakers”

Copacabana Beach Hotel

Our group of eleven was moved to Copa after the fire in Playa Suites Best Western. The administrative staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyday in the afternoon they had what we called "crazy/sexy pool games" for the spring breakers. They were a lot of fun and attracted a few hundred of the college age hotel guests to the pool. I WOULD NOT stay at Copa during spring break unless you are of college age. Like most hotels in Acapulco during spring break time, Copa is not a good place to bring a family. The beach in front of Copa is a little nasty. The water is brown , murky, and the bottom drops off quickly. I read another review that said the brown water was because the sewage dumps into the ocean nearby, which makes a lot of sense now. Several of my friends were almost hurt by the waves. The all inclusive food is pretty decent, but is nearly the same everyday and gets old after a few days. If you get a chance, watch the night show in the El Agave Bar which takes place 2-3 nights a week. My major is Fire Protection Engineering, so I am very keen on the fire safety of buildings. First, neither Copa nor any other hotels that I saw in Acapulco had fire sprinklers. Copa has two open stairwells, which is a major concern. The hotels in Mexico (including Copa) don't seem to understand that if there is a fire on a lower floor, the smoke and heat will travel up the stairwells if the fire doors are open. This would prevent you escape out of your only exit. All of our rooms had working smoke detectors. I became sick on the day before we checked out and i finally opted to see the private medical service in the Copa lobby. There was a slight language barrier between the doctor and I, but we were able to effectively communicate. The initial consult was $50 and they gave me a shot in the butt of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory. I felt a little better in about 3 hours. They also tried to give me half of a mystery tablet to let me relax and fall asleep (which I did not end up taking). I consulted my primary doctor when I returned and he said that what they gave me was necessary. I was a little cautious about trusting the medical people there, but I would trust them if I had a problem in Mexico again. I would go back and stay there as a spring breaker.

“Not Bad at All”

Copacabana Beach Hotel

5 Mar 2008

I must say after reading some of the reviews of other travellers, i was quite afraid of what i encounter upon my arrival, however it was not bad at all. I will give you a run down of my experience.Basically, when travelling to different countries don't expect the same standard of things(not in a bad way) as you would in Canada or the USA as its not the same. THE STAFF: is very helpful even though you sometimes experience a language barrier if you don't speak Spanish but nothing to worry about you can get by. ACCOMADATIONS: The rooms have a plantation home feeling to them if you are accustomed to the Hilton or if you are snobby then it may not be the place for you. Just remember when taking a shower C is for hot (Caliente ) and F is for cold (frio). FOOD: The food at the buffet was ok. They tried to make North American foods(ie pasta&meatballs) but really i think they should have had more mexican foods to help out the experience. THE BEACH: Prepare to be annoyed, there are people trying to sell you everything (sunglasses, jewellery, food, massages, hair braiding etc.). the police do ask them to leave however but they just walk down the beach so u will experience it at all the beach hotels. Just say no if ur not interested and not trying to get hustled for certain items. I think you should judge the water and sand according to your own travels. (I been to nicer in the Carribbean) THE POOL: I personal found it was reeking of sunblocks, So i personally didnt use it that often and when i did it was really early in the morning. If you go around Spring Break you should have fun with all the activities,(sexercise) depending on your crowd and what your purpose is there. (im urban they definitely were not my crowd)TOURS: You can get some really nice pictures if interested in that stuff, but dont let them take you to the Market/Flea Market, you will get hustled if you dont shop around and bargain. so just aheads up on that.
On that note the rest is yours to discover. Dont drink the water you can go to Walmart which is walking distance and buy evain or nestle (its walmart you can find whatever you want and its 24hrs) There is also a Baskin Robbins (Canadians you know what that is and also Scotia Bank) Haagen Daz, Pizza Hut, Domino Pizza Just go and enjoy the scenery and the night life and thats it.

“Loved the Copa Again !!!!!”

Copacabana Beach Hotel

14 Feb 2008

Once again I went to the Copacabana and had a great time.

As for what you are getting at this property, it has a great location, the food is OK and the serivce is great.

The hotel is very clean, including the rooms and there's not a speck of dirt and they are always cleaning, the lobby, pool area etc.

Plenty of activity pool side, from Alex and the rest of the entertainment team. The dinner under the stars twice a week pool side is very good, the grilled Salmon is recommended.

There were people at the hotel from Chicago, Minnesota, Windsor, Leamington and Montreal to name a few.

For the price and value you can't go wrong, also as for brekfast, Raul makes a great fresh omlette. I would recommend that you get a room on one of the lower floors say from the 1st to 4th floor, sometimes the elevator takes a bit too long.

Enjoy the Copacabana and the theme song which is played every day at 12:00 and then 4:00 PM.

“Sewage”

Copacabana Beach Hotel

9 Feb 2008

The hotel was clean, staff friendly and lots of entertainment. The beach was terrible. The hotel is on the bay and there are cesspools of sewage in the culverts directly on the sand on the beach. When you go down to the beach from the hotel and walk to the left you will see the culverts and you can faintly smell raw sewage in the air as you walk along the beach. The bay water is dirty and treacherous. It drops off quickly and there is a strong undertow. I didn't see very many people in the bay water the week I was there. The vendors on the beach are a nuisance. I would rather bath in sugar and have a group of flys bothering me then what I had to endure on that beach. A couple of hours of this torture and I spent the rest of my holiday near the pool. If you are a beach person this definitely is not the holiday for you.
I would not go back again. This was my first visit to Mexico and it left and very bad impression.
