We just got back from a six day trip and stayed at the Copa. We've never been toAcapulco so this was a shot in the dark. I've read all the reviews and figured what the heck!
The hotel is clean. We had jr suites and they were nice b/c not only did we have a balcony but we had a beach front view. It was nice waking up to the sound of the ocean each morning.
I had read reviews about people complaining about their elevators & thought they were being snooty. They weren't. There are almost 300 rooms in this place & 18 floors that have only 3 elevators to service them all. It took FOREVER to get an elevator, especially when it was time to go down in the morning or in the evening when the guests were all coming out of the pool.
Housekeeping cleaned our room one day & took the dirty towels & only left us 1 clean towel. My husband called for more towels but they were never brought up.
We ate a few meals there b/c we were on the all inclusive plan and I have to say the food was good (although not once did they set out tortillas to acompany their Mexican food) but it was the same meals daily. Hardly a variety. We mostly had breakfast there and ate out in the city the rest of the time. Found a good restaurant a few blocks from the hotel.
The pool area is a MAD HOUSE! Its full ALL THE TIME and not just by hotel guests but by locals who bring their whole family in and grocery bags w/food & drinks for the day! They've got an event staff to entertain the pool guests, but not once did they say/do anything in English. Ok, I know we're in Mexico but really you'd think they'd try to aim to please the American tourist who are spending lots of money to stay there. Nope.
The staff was friendly and spoke English, those that I spoke to at least. There are gift shops in the hotel but they're more costly than the price of the street shops so save your $$ & get it for less on the street.
The all inclusive bar rocked! We made friends w/Reyes, one of the bartenders, and he'd hook us up. Each time we got a round we'd tip the waiter or the bartender. Its appreciated both ways, you know.
The sand on the beach was course and hurt! It looks so soft and invitine but its composed of tiny rocks so watch yourself. Speaking of the beach, as soon as we stepped out of the hotel onto the beach we're bombarded w/more vendors! They're selling everything from fake henna tattoo's to tequila shots, cheap jewlery & food that's not been on ice in who knows how long! So watch what you decide to buy while on the beach.
We said we'd go back to Acapulco again b/c we enjoy the culture, but we'd never stay here again. Next time we're going to look into renting a condo or time share so we don't have to deal with all the above.
