For starters I want to let everyone know how I choose this hotel. I'm a 21 year old college student, and thus because my spring break was extremely late I decided to book the 'recomended' Avalon hotel in Acapulco. BAD IDEA! I ended up choosing this hotel because most reviews said it was in the middle of everything, & for Acapulco that broke the deal for me. I honestly don't know who wrote these reviews, but unless your an idiot this hotel is next to nothing, as a matter of fact, its the last hotel on the strip leaving you with a long walk to the market.. food.. bars..clubs.. etc. And from here sooo many things went WRONG!
FIRST: We get there & ofcourse noone speaks english! At all. {I have never seen such a thing in my life!] The hotel lobby looks clean but really nothing special. We (me and my friend who was also 21) received a standard room on the 3rd floor [street side] BIG MISTAKE. The room itself seemed average so we didn't mind because your really never in there anyway, but being on the 3rd floor was simply horrible. We lasted one night. THe noise from the street was so loud it felt like huge trucks were rolling outside our windom allll night!! Not to mention if you have never been in Acapulco all the hotels are on a beach strip and behind them is a very busy street! I would highly recomend ocean-side to anyone! So after not sleep on night 1 we payed $15 per night extra to switch over to the 11th floor on ocean side. This room was actually much better. We had a beautifullllll view of the whole bay, & went to bed each night only hearing the ocean waves.
SECOND: BEACH & POOL! Both veryYYYYY limited. I'm a frequent traveler and i have never seen such an ugly beach. the waves are very strong, the sand is not soft & the hotel has an area designated only for hotel visiters, thus its still pretty ugly and lacking. The pool at first seems okay, untill you realize there is a lot more ppl in the hotel then you imagine and there really isent a place in it for you. Seriosly the only area you can actually chill out in is an adults only laying pool, which was our safeheaven throughout the trip, looking back tho it was crappy and small but you gotta make the best out of what you have.
FOOD: Lets just say getting all inclusive is a JOKE! I always do all inclusive because food always seems to be really expensive everywhere i travel. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ACAPULCO. The hotel food was beyond groseee! Not to mention all the buffet food was Mexican food, and nothing else. It was really hard to find something normal & good. I think i died from happiness the day they had french-fries. This also goes for drinks. VERY VERY VERY waterered down! even the beer! SO for people who want an ok room this is your place, and simply go outside and eat. FOod outside hotel is really sooooooo much better! we went to various restaurants & were just amazed how cheap & good everything was. You could realy get a good cooked meal for about 8 US$ and diner would be around $10. Really for 7 days I would not mind spending $70 on good food. This also goes for bars!
PEOPLE: Im not sure if this only happend during my stay there but the hotel had about 10% American's & 90% Mexican family's staying there. This wasn't all that bad, but most of these families came with kids kids kids!! & i felt like i was completely at the wrongggg place!! Furthermore, when we actually spoke to some people who just drove down from Mexico they said they paid about $55 US a day for all inclusive.. which was i dont now about half of what we american's pay. NICE !
NIGHTLIFE: The hotel provided a live band i think one night, which was seriously a joke! it was actually funny to watch.
SPRING BREAK! Acapulco over all is greattttt for Spring Break: even though we did come in the ending season. THE clubs are beatifull & the whole trip is a blast, but this hotel should not be your choice! Stay at Playa Swuits which are actually located in the MIDDle of everything & it holds most of the students.
GOOD LUCK
