“friendly place”

Playa Mazatlan Hotel

There were 7 in our family that went on this 1st time trip to Mazatlan. The hotel was nice enough and like I said friendly people and the beach at the hotel was cleaned every morning by the same nice young fellow. You had to go early in the a.m. to get a spot with a cabana or you were out of luck. My daughter and granddaughter were usually up and had ours by 5 or 6 a.m. I must say the food at the hotel was just not much to our liking. The Fiesta dinner we attended on Tuesday night there was a grand affair though, food was great and the show was fantastic.
I would suggest for anyone wanting great food to go across the street to Las Pulsati's (very elegant place) also down the street to Cowboy's, great food and pool tables in the back for kids and adults alike. Then of course there is Senor Frog's. You have to take a mode of transportation there but well worth it and they are fun crazy people!!

All in all we had a good time, lucky we were leaving on Fri. morn. as Biker week was starting on Fri. and it was packed with bikers starting Thurs.

Hope this helps someone to make there trip a pleasant one!

Penny from Ca.

We spent 2 weeks at the Playa Mazatlan. The hotel's location was very good. We had a good room on the second floor, with ocean view and huge balcony, however, we were very close to the restaurant and at apporx 6 a.m. each morning we were woken to scraping chairs and banging .

The beach was lovely and we walked along it every morning. The Malecon was also a great walk, as was the walk up to the Lighthouse.

We did the All Inclusive, which for the Playa Mazatlan is a big mistake, not because you can get better meals elsewhere but because everyone on the All Inclusive has a different and much smaller menu than the other people who buy their meals. Our meals were ordered through the menu, although there was a salad bar on most days.... however, on the days when there were groups or cruise ship customers in for the meals we were not allowed to take the salad bar!! Consequently, the menu became very boring after about a week.

The Mexican Fiesta is also not available to people on the All Inclusive! Entrance fee was something like $35 US... . When we have stayed at other Mexican hotels and resorts the Fiesta night is always included in the entertainment.

There were so many people at the main pool each day, who came for the afternoon, mainly from other smaller hotels and the RV park. They put their towels on the loungers and nobody checked on them. Obviously they were welcomed by the little snack bar because they bought food drinks there all day.

There was also a large family group of about 10 - 12 people from Minnesota who had their own orange coloured towels with their last name emblazoned all over them - they even had a table towel! Every day they took up all 10-12 chairs and loungers on the beach, for the whole day! And... they were not even there to sit in them most of the afternoon. I just think it's very selfish and rude of people who do that.

The Concierges were very pleasant and helpful, as were all the waiters.

“great and quiet, place to relax with charm”

This is a authentic hotel that has been here for about 50 years and is not a high rise! We seek out the smaller properties for the better service and rustic charm. The Beach here was fabulous and did not have the hoards of trinket sellers asking and interrupting your sun rays. Food was good and the price was excellent. The rooms were a little small but worth the price. A return on my next trip!

Just came back from 5 night stay in Playa Mazatlan. It was our second time in Mazatlan and we intentionally chose this hotel based on its location, which was the only positive about this hotel. It's right in the middle of the Golden Zone and you can walk to multiple bars and restaurants and it is very close to the Historical Zone as well. The hotel looks really nice from the outside and the grounds are very clean and well maintained. There are several pools and a hot-tub (which wasn't actually hot, it was the same temperature as the pools); the beach area is very nice with plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas. There is a restaurant on the property - we didn't eat there, just had drinks and it seemed a little pricey. While the location is great it is also not so great depending where your room is. It gets really loud at night with music coming from various bars and going on until morning. So ocean view rooms are the best way to go (unless they are close to Joe's Oyster Bar). The rooms themselves are very worn out. We had to switch rooms 2 times. In the first room the the water was barely coming out of the shower and it had really strange color, so we asked to change rooms. The second room we got was a corner room and although the was water in the shower (still with a little tint) - there was no ventilation and the room was always damp, so all our clothing felt wet. Plus the room was facing the street and it was very noisy at night. We asked to switch rooms again the following day. The third room was OK, but not great. It was overlooking the pool area, so it was relatively quiet. The color of water was still an issue, so we were buying big bottles of drinking water for brushing out teeth and rinsing tooth brushed. It was OK for showering though. There was no safe in the room, but the hotel lobby provides safe deposit boxes. Beds are really firm - in fact they have concrete blocks instead of box springs, so mattress pads might not be a bad idea. There were no microwaves or kitchenettes like you would get in other hotels for the same price. It was an OK stay for us, but we will not go back to this hotel.

My friend and I had room with an amazing ocean view. It was very clean and quite spacious. The service was great as well. Our only complaint is that the restaurant at the hotel had poor service and the food was only average. Also, we could here loud music playing from 2 night clubs in the area (the oyster bar next door and another location) into the wee hours of the morning.

The beach in front of the hotel was the best around and we were in a great location to walk to may restaurants and bars in the area.
