Just returned from a week at PB Mazatlan with my husband. LOVED the resort. Very Mexican look and feel as opposed to newer "they all look alike" resorts. Rooms were large and very clean. We originally booked a luxury suite, but one wasn't available when we arrived so we were given a junior suite. Turned out we liked it better and stayed in that room for the entire week. They gave us a food and beverage credit for the difference. (The luxury suites often have the main bedroom in the back of the unit, so you hear the traffic noise and you can't just pop out of bed and see the beach. That's why we preferred the junior suite).

Balcony overlooked the pool and ocean - great for morning coffee or watching the spectacular sunsets. The activity pool was very nice - with things going on but no over the top blaring announcements or people constantly trying to cajole you into joining in the activities.

Another big plus from our viewpoint is that you can walk to nearby restaurants, shops and mini-grocery stores. Often when you're at one of the large, newer resorts you're in the middle of nowhere so you have to cab/bus it everywhere.

Food at the resort was very good, but beverages were a bit pricey.

Overall, we can't wait to come back!

We had a top-floor room looking directly out on the ocean. We were charmed by the classic styling and decor of the resort and of our room, but then again we were not looking for Americana.

The room was very clean and well-maintained, which causes me to wonder how somebody else could have reported roaches/bugs - after all, those kinds of pests do not limit themsleves to a single room; they spread until they are everywhere. My wife is "bug crazy" - would NEVER even consider camping, even if it was in a motor home - and she didn't see any evidence of a single one the whole week we were there.

Can't add much to what the previous positive reviewers have noted, other than to confirm their observations about the property, its condition, the staff, the food and service, etc. etc., etc. This is the 5th or 6th property in Mazatlan we have stayed at. In addition, we toured Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay (our second tour there in the past few years) and spent a day each at 2 of the El Cid properties, and the staff at Pueblo Bonito (not Emerald Bay) is CLEARLY the most accomodating and friendly of any in Mazatlan.

I think those who were disappointed with their stays at Pueblo Bonito must be the type who would be much happier in Cancun (which I consider to be the worst of plastic America, transplanted onto Mexican beachfront). Just my opinion, so don't bother biting my head off over it.

My wife and I stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan during February 2008. Overall we though it constituted good value and would return to the hotel if we ever go back to Mazatlan. Thirty minutes from the airport, the hotel is a 4-5 story facility spread out along the northern beach area of Mazatlan. The rooms are very Mexican in appearance, with lots of red tile, stucco, etc. We had a wonderful ocean view from our 4th story balcony and living room area. Other things we liked about the hotel included overall layout, cleanliness, friendly staff, the two nice pools, and the restaurants (which were excellent and gave us no reason to look for places to eat outside the hotel). The little deli was a great place to get lunch.

We had four very relaxing days mostly sitting by the pool and reading, and taking periodic walks on the beach. The only things we did not like included music playing over an inferior sound system by the main pool (punctuated by announcements about activities), and street noise heard from our bedroom (which is no fault of Pueblo Bonito, but is a reality of Mazatlan being spread out along a main drag that runs through town). Also, when we first arrived our room was not available and we had to stay the first night in another room. It turned out to be a minor inconvenience.

If you are headed to Mazatlan to veg out and enjoy yourself for a few days, you could do a lot worse than the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan.

I stayed at this hotel for 7 long days with my parents. Not to say anything bad about the staff, for the staff at the hotel is wonderful. It is just that the hotel rooms are old, smelly and really need updating. There are only 3-4 kingbed rooms, the rest of the hotel consists of two double beds so it is hard to sleep together with your spouse. There were roaches in the bathroom and ants in the kitchen. I had to change my room twice and my father changed rooms three times before we were able to find suitable rooms. I ended up with the "master suite" which is placed next the Cilantros and the Las palomas rest. where the piano starts up every morning at 0830.. so there was no sleeping in late. The "timeshare" sales staff at the front desk will bug the crap out you, trying to get you to do the 90min tour of their sister property.
Food is okay, but pricey. The super deli in the hotel has decent prices. Pool heated, two hot tubs. Drinks adequate, wait for 2 for 1 happy hour specials. No WIFI in the rooms. There is an internet room that has limited hours and charge to use computers/faxes.For english or non spanish speaking guests, Television selections are poor, even the HBO has very, very old movies on. Even the Pay per view movies aren't first run movies. Bring an adaptor for any three-pronged electrical devices, for the plugs in the room are only the two-pronged type (if i am making any sence)
The staff makes the hotel, for they will go out of their way for you, very friendly. For those who fish, they will even cook your catch for you in Cilantro's. The owner/owner's need to just do some updating, until then..i will not stay there again.

Hi, I am always sorry to hear when someone doesn't enjoy there stay, I wasn't always a owner @ the peublo. But I can say that I was married on the property and had a beautiful honeymoon as well. We had a group of twenty at our wedding and there was some guest that had varing disabilites, there was wheel chair acess to all hotel locations eg. pool, resturants except cilantro's but the staff would bring the food to a patio table for you. For the last 2years my 19 yr old daughter and friends have been going to the resort and find it great to party at, I guess you make your own fun sometimes. Sorry that the resort wasn't the same for you

Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan January 14 – 28, 2008
As we had been staying in old town at Hotel La Siesta prior to going PB Maz we took a cab from there at a cost of 100 peses. We traded into PB Maz through RCI for a “junior suite”. I had previously emailed PB Maz requesting an ocean “front” room. They had responded quickly and said they would try. We arrived around noon and they showed us room 4021 (I think it was) in the newer section which yes was ocean front but right beside the wall of the Luna Palace resort. It appeared a little dark and we could see it wouldn’t get any sun until late in the day. It also had a mini fridge and we wanted a larger one. We asked to see another room in the older section. We were shown room 431 and thought it was great! We loved the views from this balcony; it got a lot of sun and had a larger fridge. Staff was very accommodating through all this. Check in was no problem. Towel cards were issued and we could set up an account to have everything charged to our room or if not, pay as we go. We opted for the later, to pay as we go, so there wouldn’t be any surprises when we checked out.
To the left of the entrance are the “time share” gals. They offered us a welcome package, which consisted of coupons for a free welcome drink each and a card for 10% off all food/beverages (not valid during happy hours). They also mentioned that if we were interested in seeing Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay to come and see them. This was the only time a presentation at Emerald Bay was mentioned to us during our 2 week stay. We came to find out later from others that the “incentive gifts’ offered to view a presentation were not applicable to Canadian’s, so that’s likely why no further approach.
Room 431 is on the top floor above the restaurant. We had no issues with noise from the restaurant and we always had our balcony doors open. (great ocean sounds during the night!)Everything seemed to quiet down and close up before 10pm. The kitchenette was great and had everything we needed. 2 burner stove with fan and light above it. Blender, toaster, coffee maker. Utensils, dishes, pots, fry pans. Dish soap and tea towels were provided daily. Fridge worked well and came with ice cube trays. All appliances worked well. An iron and ironing board is tucked away in the closet. There is also a good sized safe in the closet...no cost. We saw an A/C control on the wall but never used it.
There were 2 double beds that were extremely comfy and certainly not hard. TV worked well and had a variety of channels, including pay per view movies. A nightly turn down service is also provided. There’s a small sitting area which we hardly used as we sat mostly out on the balcony. The balcony also has a drying rack.
Bathroom was a good size with large vanity and tub with shower. Water pressure was good and always plenty of hot water. Good supply of towels, face cloths and toiletries were left daily.
Maid service was very good. Everything was always very clean. We left the maid 20 pesos daily. We always washed our own dishes and she often put them away.
We were advised that we could drink the hotel water, which we did without any problems. They have their own purification system.
There is a supply of bottled water and coffee in the room. Very pricey. We bought our own coffee during our grocery shopping trip to Gigante.
We soon decided that the location of PB Maz was perfect for us. It’s an easy walk to many restaurants and shops. Buses, taxi’s and pulmonia’s (open air taxi’s) stop out front constantly if heading further south to the hub of the hotel zone. We took the buses everywhere...north and south. Walking the beach is great too. There are restaurants along the beach as well. One day we walked as far as Valentino’s and checked out all the hotels along the way. No problem going in and looking around. Although some looked very nice I have to say I liked our spot the best!
The weather was rather cool while we were there so most of our sunning was done by the pool. It was quite cool some days on the beach. We liked the larger pool better than the smaller one as it was a little more active. There were daily activities like volley ball, horse shoes, darts, bingo etc. They also have special theme nights for Fiesta's.
There are vendors on the beach but we don’t find them a problem. Actually I thought there were very few compared to our stay in Puerto Vallarta last year. I did find it interesting that PB Maz and various other hotels put out notices discouraging guests from buying from the beach vendors. There’s is a beach vendor you shouldn’t miss. “The shrimp guy”. He comes early in the morning (7-7:30am) and first stands out front of the newer section and then strolls down to the older section. We purchased beautiful shrimp from 2X. 180 pesos/kilo for the large ones. I think they may be cheaper at the market but this was very convenient. He’ll clean them for you as well.
There were so many restaurants in the nearby area we wanted to try that we never did eat at any of the restaurants at PB. We did have a few light lunches at the pool bar and on our last night there, we enjoyed yellow fin tuna, caught by friends of ours and prepared for them at Cilanto’s. The cost was 100 pesos/pp and included all the trimmings. We’d buy a few drinks during happy hours and also bring down our own drinks in large commuter mugs from our room. We also saw people bring down food they had prepared in their rooms for snacks and lunches. PB’s rules state “no coolers or glass ware” at the pool or on the beach.
The staff at PB Maz we found to be outstanding in all areas. The concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful. She was also able to have medication delivered to the hotel for us from Moderna Pharmacy. No extra charge except for a tip for the delivery man. We found they all worked hard at keeping the resort itself and the grounds clean.
We just thought this resort was wonderful in every way. Location and service was excellent for us. On our next trip to Mazatlan we will definitely want to stay at Pueblo Bonito Maz.!
