Booked our vacation through Alaska Air Vacations. The hotel was pretty nice. We had a deluxe suite (1 bedroom which had two double beds, plus pull out in the living). Rooms were quite spacious. Kitchenette is indeed just a kitchenette. Full size fridge though, two electric burnes plus some decent pots and pans. Pull out couch was not too comfortable to sleep on, but no backache.

Internet: they have an internet room. There were 6 PCs or so. They also make coffee drinks. Nicely done. Don't bother bringing your own laptop, which we did. There is no wireless, but have to connect to an outlet in the room. Unfortunately we found out that a lot of ports are firewalled. I couldn't POP my mail (port 110 or 995) or send out mail (port 25 or 2525). At least they didn't charge me for the trouble shooting. According to them there is no firewall but somehow I couldn't get through. Rates are $20 for 15 minutes (that is 20 pesos, divide by 10 for USD), $30 for 30min, and $40 for an hour. There is also a restaurant a couple minute walk up the street where they have free wireless internet when you order something, Maybe more luck there with POPing, but I didn't try.

Pool service: Nice people, attentive. Happy hour 11-12 and 4-5. Two for One drinks. Beer was $35, but plus tax and tip that is $45. Not too cheap, but during happy hour ok I guess (they bring them in a bucket of ice). Mixed drinks were pretty steep. Margaritas $70. There is also a nice deli where beer is $12. Otherwise, the grocery market across the street sells 8-packs for $70.

We also went to Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay with the shuttle. Very pretty resort. More modern. Very nice pool. For families I think PBM is better, more kid friendly pool, more cozy. But for honeymooners Emerald Bay is really nice. Also at PBM you can just walk out the door walk a couple minutes to have breakfast at a different place every day, at Emerald Bay you are pretty much stuck there, nothing around the resort.

Location PBM: it is officially in the Golden Zone, but I think a bit off the Golden Zone. You can take a local bus to the heart of Golden Zone or to center of town. The non-airconditioned are $5, with a/c $8. Pulmonia to Golden Zone $40 plus tip, to center town $80 plus tip.

“Fantastic vacation at PB Mzt!”

Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan

I read every review on just about every property in Mazatlan before booking my vacation at Pueblo Bonito. I was apprehensive about what we would find, but hoped for the best. I am happy to say, we had a fantastic time. Traveled during "peak" spring break time with my husband and 8-yr old twin boys, but would never know it because nothing was ever crowded. The hotel, while older and dated, was completely authentic and impeccably clean. We stayed in a luxury master suite, which was small for a family of 4, but totally manageable. My only complaint with the entire trip was that the beds were small and not so comfortable. Otherwise, our room, #214, was great (not a bug in sight ever!). A beautiful view of the grounds, the pool and the ocean. The room (as mentioned in other reviews) did have a musty smell, but easily fixed by opening the patio doors and letting the fresh air in. The staff in this hotel was first rate. Everyone, from the bellboys to the concierge to the poolside waitstaff was super friendly, very accommodating, and always attentive. My kids had a blast in the pool. They especially loved the waterfall/swim-up bar. The beach is very nice, no rocks, safe, & fun to boogie board and play in the waves. There are lots of vendors around to sell you things, but a friendly 'no gracias' is enough to get the message across. Also, lots of activities on the beach such as jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides (a blast), etc. Also worth mentioning, this hotel is extremely convenient, within easy walking distance, to other restaurants, shops, etc. A nice stroll along the beach will bring you to a few different, very affordable, restaurants with gorgeous sunset views. We did the time-share presentation at Emerald Bay mostly because we wanted to spend the day at that property anyway, and were curious to see the rooms. Our sales person, Antonio, was very nice & friendly, and after our tour, was fine with our 'not interested in purchasing' response. Yes, he piled on the deals and reasons why it was a good purchase, but was professional and courteous and not at all overbearing. In exchange for our time, we received $200 off our hotel bill and a city-tour for 4 (highly recommended!!). By the way, Emerald Bay is a spectacular property. 5-stars all the way. It could easily have been transplanted in Vegas as it felt like a super-resort. At the end of the day though, we like our hotel better. There was more to do, more kid friendly, more authentic, more energy. Finally, for those who don't know, Mazaltan is the first city in Mexico with purified water. The hotel further filters it, so it is completely safe for drinking.

I would highly recommend this city to my friends, as well as the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan.

“Great atmosphere & friendly staff”

Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan

Just returned from a week at PB Mazatlan with my husband. LOVED the resort. Very Mexican look and feel as opposed to newer "they all look alike" resorts. Rooms were large and very clean. We originally booked a luxury suite, but one wasn't available when we arrived so we were given a junior suite. Turned out we liked it better and stayed in that room for the entire week. They gave us a food and beverage credit for the difference. (The luxury suites often have the main bedroom in the back of the unit, so you hear the traffic noise and you can't just pop out of bed and see the beach. That's why we preferred the junior suite).

Balcony overlooked the pool and ocean - great for morning coffee or watching the spectacular sunsets. The activity pool was very nice - with things going on but no over the top blaring announcements or people constantly trying to cajole you into joining in the activities.

Another big plus from our viewpoint is that you can walk to nearby restaurants, shops and mini-grocery stores. Often when you're at one of the large, newer resorts you're in the middle of nowhere so you have to cab/bus it everywhere.

Food at the resort was very good, but beverages were a bit pricey.

Overall, we can't wait to come back!

We had a top-floor room looking directly out on the ocean. We were charmed by the classic styling and decor of the resort and of our room, but then again we were not looking for Americana.

The room was very clean and well-maintained, which causes me to wonder how somebody else could have reported roaches/bugs - after all, those kinds of pests do not limit themsleves to a single room; they spread until they are everywhere. My wife is "bug crazy" - would NEVER even consider camping, even if it was in a motor home - and she didn't see any evidence of a single one the whole week we were there.

Can't add much to what the previous positive reviewers have noted, other than to confirm their observations about the property, its condition, the staff, the food and service, etc. etc., etc. This is the 5th or 6th property in Mazatlan we have stayed at. In addition, we toured Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay (our second tour there in the past few years) and spent a day each at 2 of the El Cid properties, and the staff at Pueblo Bonito (not Emerald Bay) is CLEARLY the most accomodating and friendly of any in Mazatlan.

I think those who were disappointed with their stays at Pueblo Bonito must be the type who would be much happier in Cancun (which I consider to be the worst of plastic America, transplanted onto Mexican beachfront). Just my opinion, so don't bother biting my head off over it.

My wife and I stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan during February 2008. Overall we though it constituted good value and would return to the hotel if we ever go back to Mazatlan. Thirty minutes from the airport, the hotel is a 4-5 story facility spread out along the northern beach area of Mazatlan. The rooms are very Mexican in appearance, with lots of red tile, stucco, etc. We had a wonderful ocean view from our 4th story balcony and living room area. Other things we liked about the hotel included overall layout, cleanliness, friendly staff, the two nice pools, and the restaurants (which were excellent and gave us no reason to look for places to eat outside the hotel). The little deli was a great place to get lunch.

We had four very relaxing days mostly sitting by the pool and reading, and taking periodic walks on the beach. The only things we did not like included music playing over an inferior sound system by the main pool (punctuated by announcements about activities), and street noise heard from our bedroom (which is no fault of Pueblo Bonito, but is a reality of Mazatlan being spread out along a main drag that runs through town). Also, when we first arrived our room was not available and we had to stay the first night in another room. It turned out to be a minor inconvenience.

If you are headed to Mazatlan to veg out and enjoy yourself for a few days, you could do a lot worse than the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan.
