“Low Budget Basic Accomodations”

Hotel la Siesta

I learned about La siesta on trip advisor and found that most of the reviews were dead on. The rooms are very basic with no frills but were clean and looked after.
Our room was on the second floor Ocean facing and except for road noise met our expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful and the newly renovated pool was nice.
Great location if you wast to get away from the " resort experience".
My wife and I would not hesitate to return.
A word of caution regarding King James tours in Mazatlan. I had endless problem with their on line booking and they failed to show up for our prepaid return trip to the air port.

“Stay away from this place!”

Hotel la Siesta

We had decided to book 2 nights at la Siesta based on the reviews read on the trip advisor. What a mistake that was! The room was in a terrible state. We had a balcony facing the sea but the smell was disgusting (mouldy & damp), not to mention the smell of the bed itself. We didn't sleep at all because of it and had to shower very well in the morning to get rid of that smell! We then saw a mouse (alive) in the walk in cupboard and it ran away as we opened the door. There was a whole in the wall...the whole place is in a poor condition anyway and this is not surprising the room was as it was! stay away from the place! yes, you get a nice view from their balacony but I'd rather have no view and a clean & fresh room. When we confronted the receptionist to ask for a refund on the 2nd night (there was no way we were prepared to spend another night there), we got our money back no problem.
Regarding the restaurant The shrimp bucket, the food is disgusting there too.Dirty cups with lipstick on & I had to send my dish back and my partner got sick after eating his. We strongly recommend Pedro & Lola restaurant in the old Mazatlan by the plaza.

“Perfect Little Gem”

We LOVED the La Siesta. Old Town by far was our favorite area. This hotel is on the skirts of it all. Room 314 had two balconies, 2 queen beds and a view on top of that. The sounds of the ocean in the morning and night time was so soothing.
It is not brand new or really updated. Just clean and practical. We booked on line for around 39 dollars a night. (low season).
The Shrimp Bucket is a restaurant attached and they had a good breakfast. Other than that we walked and walked. The Square and Market are nearby.
The hotel only has stairs. We didn't mind. Gave us a chance to walk off our food and spirits.
The front desk was great. Full of information and smiles. Nothing to complain about!!!!

“Perfect spot”

This hotel is in a perfect spot. We only stayed two nights, but we loved the hotels charm. Ask for room 214, or 314. Both have 2 balconies with different views and a sofa.

We ate one night at the Shrimp Bucket, but I did not think the food was outstanding. The service was good.

The ocean at the beach is deceiving. You walk out a few feet and it starts to get a little deeper, than it gets more shallow. Maybe up to your knees a 100 feet from shore. I had a lot of fun playing in the waves.

The new pool is very nice. Check out the photos.

We enjoyed our stay, and felt very comfortable and safe at the hotel.

“Hotel La siesta”

Hotel la Siesta

I stayed at La Siesta for five nights at the end of August of 2007. I chose the hotel because of its location near the historic center of Mazatlan and because of the price. If you are unfamiliar with Mazatlan, the tourist area (Golden Zone) and the historic center of town are several miles away from each other.

My overall experience was good. It offers a basic hotel room. My telephone and one light fixture did not work. However, it was clean and relatively quiet.

I have lived in Mexico, and I have traveled extensively throughout the country. I am also a Spanish speaker. La Siesta was typical of most (non-touristy) hotels. The only negative experience was a young man who worked at the counter who was extremely rude - perhaps the most arrogant [--] I have ever encountered in Mexico. He jumped the price of the room the additional night I stayed there, and he took glee in speaking to and about hotel guests in a rude manner. Everyone else at the hotel was great. Due to this one individual, I would not even consider returning to the hotel. To me, attitude is everything.

My recommendation: stay at La Siesta if you want to get a taste of traditional Mexico. BOOK ONLINE!!! Stay away from the English speaking male counter worker at all costs. If you have children or want a traditional tourist holiday - stay at one of the many Golden Zone hotels that have larger grounds and bigger pools.
