My husband and I stayed at Hotel La Siesta from Jan 10-14/08. Taxi fare from airport was $26. This was our first visit to Maz and we wanted to explore the old town area before heading to our time share in the hotel zone. The hotel's location is perfect. We were able to walk to many great restaurants, Machado Square, central market etc. We booked through Sell Off Vacations. We found them cheaper than booking with hotel directly. I had emailed the hotel prior to request either room 214 or 314. They replied promptly, saying they would try. I had read on TA that these were nice rooms. Check in was no problem and we were given room 314. We had help with our luggage as there is no elevator. The room was nice and clean and large with a balcony on the side and at the front overlooking the Malecon and the ocean. It had 2 double beds. We found the one we used comfortable and not too hard. There is no phone or blow dryer . TV worked quite well with a variety of english and mexican channels. There is AC but not sure how well it worked aswe didn't need it. Water was supplied in a large pitcher from a water cooler down the hall. Small soap & shampoo also supplied. Face cloths were not supplied. Shower only, no tub. Water always plentiful with good temp. We were well aware that this was a small basic hotel when we booked, but just loved our room with it's wonderful views. It was great sitting on the balcony in the afternoon, in the sun, watching the ocean and life along the Malecon. The hotel also has a pool. We didn't use it as the weather was quite cool but it looked very clean and inviting. They do not supply pool towels. There is a small variety store on the corner of the hotel that supplies beer, liquor, pop snacks etc. Prices reasonable. They offer a safety deposit box at the main desk. We did use it for passport, tickets etc and were given the key. There is a computer with free internet in the lobby.
This is not a hotel for someone who cannot do stairs or is looking for resort style luxury. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and we found the hotel to have a warm homey feel to it. Definitly spend the extra few dollars to get an ocean front room. We thought it was great and would not hesitate to go back!
