“Relaxing Comfort, Canada”

Costa de Oro

We spent a very relaxing 1 week all-inclusive vacation at the Costa de Oro Beach Hotel in April 2008.
The hotel was very clean and the staff where very welcoming and did everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our selves. Our rooms were great, they where very spacious and incredibly clean, the cleaning staff went out of their way to provide you with extra towels or soap when requested; we could tell that they really enjoyed looking after us. The restaurant was located right there and the food was good but I did find that I got tired of the same menu for the week. Sunday morning the restaurant offered a breakfast buffet which was wonderful, but I was disappointed when told that Sunday was the only day the buffet was offered. The Lunch/Dinner menu was the same which did not really give you a large variety to choose from but overall the food was good. There were no pool side activities or evening activities for the all-inclusive guests in the hotel which was perfect because we wanted just to tan and soak up the heat. Every evening we walked towards downtown, on the way we looked through stores and smaller markets where we haggled when purchasing souvenirs’. The pool was large and very inviting and the ocean was right there to enjoy as well. Both were very clean and comfortable.
Overall we had a wonderful time and I would definitely go back.

I stayed here Feb 29-Mar 14. I throughly enjoyed it. The room was what I asked for, which was a room on the 1st floor. The room was very clean and well maintained. Everything worked the way it was meant to.

Maid service was great and was willing to do a couple of little things I asked for. I tipped extra for that.

The pool area was wonderfull. the waite staff were quick and prompt. Even though there were Lots of collage spring breakers staying here it was never too loud or out of controll.

The front desk was prompt and effecent. Bell and doorman very helpfull.

I loved they have a supermarket right on the properity.

Food at the resturant or around the pool was hot and tasty

I will be coming back.

“Cheap and cheerful”

Costa de Oro

We stayed at the Costa de Oro with some friends on a cheap last minute deal on Expedia. We paid $5 per night to upgrade from the "tennis court" room to a "beach" room because the beach room stated that it came with a balcony.

Our first room was not good. We saw it and went straight back to reception and said we wanted another it was run down and no balcony or terrace. It was also on the bottom floor, next to the swimming pool toilets, restaurant and cleaning staff room. As it was a Sat night, the hotel was fully booked and we could not get another room. We got about 3 hours sleep because the last people staggered loudly from the restaurant about 2am and the cleaning staff started up around 5am!

Our friends room was much better, on the 2nd floor, but still no balcony. Turns out only half the rooms have balconys and the "beach room" is no guarantee of getting a balcony. That said, a "beach room" is a much better bet regardless, as the "tennis court" rooms are actually in another building on the other side of the main road!

The next day the hotel moved us into a much nicer room 2 floors up. It was the same style/size but not nearly as run down, not loud and it had the balcony! The rooms were of an average size, decent bathrooms and beds. If the second room, and, to a lesser extent our friend's room, was indicitive of the quality, then the Costa De Oro Beach Hotel is decent value for money. There was clearly a variation in the standard of rooms (same size but varying levels of shabbiness) so if you're not happy with a room, there is probably something better!

The pool, beach and pool bar are all great. Decent size, nice water and lovely staff. Really, on a beach holiday, how much time do you spend in your room anyway? The best bits of this hotel were it location and the pool. Its cheap enough for an inexpensive getaway and you can't expect perfection on that kind of budget.

Stayed at the Costa de Oro from the 20th - 29th February. Stayed in a 1bedroom ocean view. Rooms were really nice. 2 double beds, living room/dining room, two sofas that can be made into beds, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, fully stocked kitchen. Beds were really hard and pillows even harder so I would bring your own. Staff were not the friendliest I have encountered. Usually by the time we leave we are on a first name basis with waiters, lobby personnel, bartenders. The only one who got to know us was our maid Isabella. She was great. They have lots of things to do, bingo, ceramic painting, cooking lessons, manicure station, spa (massage-30$ 1 Hour), little store with snacks, pop, beer, etc. They also have a pretty pricey jewelry store. Pool and Beach are great. They do not have lounges and palapas on the beach though so the only place to sunbath is around the pool which is nice also because there is an area where you can watch the activities on the beach and the ocean. It is right in the middle of the Golden Zone so lots of places to go to eat, shop, etc. They do have the All Inclusive for 48$ a day if you would like, you can take it day by day or for the entire stay. We did really enjoy ourselves so would go back there again.

Beds are a bit firm. Nice big shower with full water pressure. TV has Fox News and an L.A. channel along with movie channels and Mexican channels. Staff is friendly. Easy walk to restaurants, shops, ATM.

A general store is located in the hotel, where you can get a beer for a buck, bottled water for 50 cents, fresh fruit, and many other things - very nice to have this.

Pool area is nice, overlooking the beach, but windy. Hot tub should be warmer. Drinks are expensive at the pool by Mazatlan standards, $3.50 for a beer. 2-for-1 from 1pm to 2pm, sometimes extended. We'd buy the 2-for-1, but otherwise bought from the general store. I liked the food. Pool chairs are the usual hard plastic. I noticed Hotel Playa has padding on their chairs.

Best places I've eaten in Mazatlan are Pancho's and the Hotel Playa restaurant.
