I read another review that was our experience...the second we come in the door with suitcases, exhausted having moved from another motel that day, a "shark" attacked. She would not leave us alone, and I pretty much unloaded on her. LEAVE US ALONE UNTIL WE HAVE CHECKED IN! "I'm just doing my job" Well, do your job when I'm DONE checking in, for crying out loud. She finally backed off. Well, first night there, we noticed bites. Hadn't seen a mosquito or any bugs so we went to the front desk and showed them our bites. They immediately blamed mosquitos (right...we're on the ocean)and ran up to fumigate the room. They pulled back the beds and sprayed all over the place. We left while they did this. They left the can of Raid on the desk and we did use it again. Hope I didn't get too poisoned. I really should have asked for some of the money to be reimbursed for our trouble with this. The shower sucked and it needs a new head. It sprayed all over, everywhere except my body and hair. Now...for the GREAT stuff!!!! We were in room 360. It was on the end in the Garden Rooms. We could see the garden AND the beach. It was great. The pool area is right next to the beach. Very nice. Food was good at the restaurant. Another thing that bugged me about my room was the placement. Was nice to have the breeze coming through, but the door to the deck was right in line with the front door. People walking by the door and also across from us in the other building. I had to pretty much keep everything closed if I was dressing. Totally unlike the El Moro Tower. Much more private feeling. I don't think I'd go back to the Costa, but probably would find another place along there with a great beach placement next to the resort like this one.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The beach, the pool and our room view were spectacular. I would definitely stay here again! The room was a bit dated but the view from the balcony was wonderful. We sat out there every single morning and evening to enjoy what was happening on the beach. We had terrific service from the concierge, but I can't say the same thing about the staff at the check-in desk. They were very unfriendly!

Stayed in a timeshare 1 bedroom during low season.
The unit was available through my in-laws timeshare; we were not there on a promotion. Check-in was a breeze.
Within 10 seconds, some woman runs up behind asking for my room number. I said it was none of her business. The first of countless timeshare parasites who can't take NO for an answer.

The room was OK. Great view of pool and ocean, just like the brochure. There are no non-smoking rooms but it did not smell of nicotine or cleaner.

Beds were OK but I wouldn't want to be sleeping on the sofas!
Great shower, lousy towels as expected.
Clothes drying rack on the balcony is a nice touch.
The door was flimsy but had a nice yellow arched window.
The toilet paper was useless. Go buy another brand for yourself.
The floor was dirty, though it got mopped mid-week.
Hotel restaurant (Adobe's) was good, as was the pool service.
Front desk flatly refused to convert five $1 bills into a $5 bill ?!

Lots of freeloading locals at the pool, unlike El Cid where there is security.

The lobby store and coffee cart cannot bill your charges to the room.

Great massage at Paul Mish, adjacent this building.
Go to Rico's across the street for breakfast. Ignore the parasites!

I stayed at Costa de Oro in Mazatlan Mexico in January 2008. The reception staff were corteous and the room was clean. The room were I stayed had a connection door to the room next door which made noise more noticeable. The neighboors were kind of busy at times. That is no problem if you travel with family but if you want more privacy (honeymoon, etc.) this is not the right place. I rate the stay as average.

This is a little delayed, but I loved this hotel and wanted to let everyone know! Went in June with my Fiance and three other friends. We had a blast. The pool and beach were both beautiful! The service at the hotel was amazing. Tip well and you'll find yourself to be a favorite of the servers. The drinks are really reasonbly priced and during happy hour its buy one get one! Don't hesitate to order several beers during this time. You can keep them in your hotel room and order ice from the front desk if you feel like one later. By the end of our week long stay all of the staff knew our names and were to nice. If you plan on going to some of the big clubs like Bora Bora, tell the tourist guide at the hotel, he often has coupons for free addmission and that can save you about ten bucks a person. Also, love the location of the hotel, within walking distance of several restaurants and tons of little shops.

TIPS:

Don't miss the Fiesta at the Playa Mazatlan, well worth the $35 for all you can eat and drink. Very entertaining, Good Carne Asada.

If you need to exchange currency go to the American Express store. It's only about a block and half South of the hotel and gives you much better rates than the Hotels.
