“Our stay was 'surprising'!”

Fiesta Inn Mazatlan

My girlfriend & I went to Mazatlan for the first time several years ago and stayed at the Fiesta since we both were tight for cash. The hotel lobby was nice and our room wasn't bad, although you had to stand on tiptoe at the corner of our balcony to see the ocean.First thing when we saw when we got to our room and opened the door was a gecko scurrying up the wall above one of the beds to get out of the "new" occupants' way! I was the courageous one who decided to take that bed. However, I dragged the bed out away from the walls so I wouldn't be surprised again by any creatures in the night. We kept the sliding door to our balcony wide open every night since there wasn't any air conditioning. Needless to say we both slept without the covers. We finally got used to the climate about our 3rd night, and I actually pulled up a sheet to stay warm in the middle of the night! We met a charming waiter in the restaurant who took us on a friendly city tour (his other job). The food and drinks were good, but we had so much more fun eating out at other locales. The disco down the way kept a heavy beat thumping 'til 2 a.m. or so every night, but we never got in before midnight ourselves and fell asleep out of sheer exhaustion; so the noise, though loud, wasn't too bothersome to keep us from sleep. It did have a tendency to make you go crazy if you chose to stick around the premises as we did one evening. We went to the seaside bar, which was pleasant and charming, although a drunk old man tried to pick us up (it didn't work, because he spoke no English and we faked speaking no Spanish except for the persistent "no, no, no!")We felt absolutely safe at the hotel because the people who live and work in Mazatlan want tourists to stay, so they go out of their way to cater to us. It's the tourists themselves who litter the beaches and commit crimes against other tourists (I found out that the staff and locals clean the beaches early every morning to remove litter the tourists leave behind, including unmentionables left after nighttime intimacy on the beach). The staff was helpful in booking our boat tour and giving us directions. Our room was clean and neat, though it didn't have any extras, except the occasional lizard. All in all, if you have no expectations of luxury, are adventurous and have very little money, the stay here will be fun and hassle-free.

“the only place to stay”

We've been back to Fiesta Inn 3 times now, last time in first week in March. We love that all rooms are ocean view, and the other side is the street and no rooms on that side. We met our friends there from Canada and Iowa, there the first time, and now it is our place! Food is wonderful, and the servers are great! On the beach you great waited on and we always get to know our servers very well! Tip in US dollar bills and you get anything you want at. The food at the hotel and anywhere you go is excellent! We are going back either end of Feb. or 1st week of March.......Can't wait!

we enjoyed this hotel as it is not too big but the staff were very friendly and the hotel itself is very clean. We had an excellent ocean view as this hotel is right on the beach. The buffet breakfasts were excellent.

“Good place and Friendly people”

I stayed there for four nights in April, 2003 for my 20th anniverssary. The hotel is well functionally designed (size and privacy) and located in off the crowded part of the city; Yet, bus line was right front of the hotel to move around the city for 7.5 pesos. Beach behind the hotel was well groomed up. Overall, my rating for the hotel is positive. I was however disappointed at the run down city; expensive stores and restaurants, and not so pleasant food quality for the price. Too many poor merchants on the beachs or streets everywhere. I know it is not the hotel's problem and I know poor people have to make livings too. It seems more of city goverment issues. Hopefully, they clean up and bring their quality up; otherwise, they will lose a lot of foreign money, if they care. Mazatlan still has good reputation in the US but I don't think they keep the city and the beachs up to the reputation. What a waste of good nature resources.

Spent a wonderfully relaxing week at the Fiesta Inn the 1st week of March, 2003. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Staff friendly. Great beach to walk. North end of Gold Zone, so a little quieter. Restaurants close by and reasonably priced. Will do it again next year.
