“Loved the Emporio”

Emporio Mazatlan

My husband and I recently returned from our Xmas stay at the Emporio Mazatlan. We found the hotel to be to our liking. It's located right on the beach. The hotel is shaped like a "U" with all room balconies facing pool/ocean. Very nice view. They had nice pool furniture and umbrellas but as usual not enough chairs for the amount of people.

The pool was cold - the ocean on the other hand was very nice. The beach is sandy all the way into the water and it stays shallow for a long ways out. They have additional chairs just outside their beach wall but they are in sad shape. The beach vendors hang around the beach wall but don't hound you if you say "No". The room we had sported 2 double beds, a large dresser, large closet c/w free room safe, color tv, coffee maker - makes 4 small cups (1st round of coffee is free - additional days are $14 pesos (+-$1.40) - less expensive than the restaurant, large shower with plenty of hot water, blow dryer and extendable magnifying mirror in the bathroom (for those of us ladies who need to get right up to the mirror to apply makeup). No fridge in the room. I had expected to find an iron in the room but there was none. A quick note to the maid in my pigeon Spanish and one magically appeared and I kept it for the whole week. We had excellent maid service. The room was kept clean, the towels were always fresh and the sundries were replaced daily. The water was fine to drink (we were assured it was purified) although we only brushed our teeth with it we had no repercussions. They do provide bottled water for you. A bottle is $16 pesos but if you go down the street you can get gallon for a few cents more. We used it for our coffee and drinking. The bar offers happy hour every day from 5-6 p.m. and from 7-8 p.m. All drinks 2 for 1. Drink prices and restaurant prices were reasonable. We only ate at the hotel twice as there are lots of wonderful restaurants within walking distance.

Our only real complaint was the Disco located 2 lots over. They played music until 4 a.m. and it was loud. Those Mexicans love their music and dancing. I suggest taking some ear plugs and turning up the A/C to drown out the bass. Other than the noise from the disco this hotel was great. Friendly and accommodating staff made the trip memorable and we'd go back in a heartbeat!

MAZATLAN- THE RIVIERA HOTEL- TREATED US LIKE FAMILY

My sister and I stayed at the Riviera from January 22, 2006 til Feb 5, 2006. Upon arriving we were checked in right away with a smile; and from that time on we were treated like family. The rooms were spotless, the restaurant and bar service was awesome. We did not go all inclusive, but next time we will. The food was authentic and tasty and the helpings were generous. No matter where we went in the hotel, we were met with smiles .........they tried teaching us Spanish, while we taught them a little English. I have never felt so at home in a hotel before. I highly recommend the hotel and staff. We did not want to leave but we will be back.

“Good Location, Not Bad Food, Clean & Friendly”

Emporio Mazatlan

The Riviera is PRIME location - close to upscale hotels, resuarants, shopping. Pool is nice, clean. We were there during Carnival - DO NOT miss the parade, bull fight, other cultural stuff going on if you are there during Carnival. It's an experience you'll remember. The riviera is a great deal for the price. Lots of REALLY LOUD spring breakers though the week I was there, but we were getting in late too so I didn't mind the noise...older people or people with young children might not find this the ideal hotel. Im 28yrs and liked it. Next time I will stay at something nicer like The Playa as It was almost the same price as the riviera and was MUCH NICER. Good night spots are close to the Riviera (walking distance) i.e., Joe's Oyster Bar, the BAHA, and an EXCELLENT well priced Italian dinner place called VITTORIO'S is close. Went to several places for dinner ~ this place was the BEST and was not on the Radar. Its across from Joe's Oyster bar/hotel. Mazatlan ROCKS and is lot's of fun for people of all ages - everyone fits in. ENJOY!

“Not on Spring Break”

Emporio Mazatlan

4 Apr 2006

This is a great hotel with a very nice staff. It is a beach hotel, not a 5 star exclusive type of spot. There is one restaurant with buffet or most menu items available. The Palapa bar is by the pool. We got our tours from the front lobby representative. Spring break made the hotel a bit crazy, I DON'T RECOMMEND STAYING THERE DURING SPRING BREAK in March unless you are a student. This hotel is the center of spring break/Mazatlan. You can find pictures of it online by google search with the hotel name and spring break. Looks like [-----------] was the sponsor there. I could tell that after spring break wound down, the staff extended themselves, and at night we were able to sleep. Our room was on the street side and it was NOISY, but we were just glad to be in sunny, friendly Mexico. I actually slept with earplugs prior to that. The local style taxis in Mazatlan are famous and they are all wired with loud steroes and custom horns. You can hear them through the hotel door as if you are walking down on the street. There are clubs on each side of the hotel which I was told were noisy late at night, so we figured we got the best deal. The street side was almost way too loud until midnight weeknights and after about 3am on weekends. All inclusive was ok compared to the one other place I had stayed in Mexico on the same type of deal. I was happy with the cocktails and food. The bar closes at 10pm sharp. The pool is big enough for the 150 room hotel, I think. Lots of kids here so you could bring them, no problem if you have them. The beach off of the hotel is GREAT with palapas shading you. It is a standard california type of beach not a pure white sand, see-through blue water type which some seem to expect. I liked the beach area. This hotel is right next to the main strip of the golden (dorado) zone. You can walk to restaurants, shops and other hotels. The best shopping is downtown. Restaurants and clubs are all around this hotel. I would recommend this beach hotel, but with a warning for noise. I really like Mazatlan and would consider staying at this hotel again, but would investigate others also. The people of Mazatlan are so friendly at the hotel and in town. The rooms are clean and everything is functional with a walk in shower room. Each room has a large balconey facing the center of the U shaped hotel/pool. We could see the ocean, a bit of the sunset, and 3 islands off of the coast also from our balconey.

stayed here for the week March 2, 2006.
Rooms are nice, staff is great, food is way better than most places, the beach is one of the best in Mazatlan because of the second tier that helps with high tides and slows down the beach vendors.
Unless you like drunk ,noisy students, avoid spring break (most of March) as this is a spring break favorite....then again, think of all the bikinis...
We stayed for a week, then got tired of the students and moved to Los Sabalo, more money, but quieter, and mexican students, not USA ones. Mexicans are more respectful and stay in contyrol of themselves
