What a great base for exploring old Mazatlan. The owners, Glenn & Sharon, have done an impeccable job converting one of the city's historic homes (across from the art museum) into a completely inviting bed and breakfast (six unique rooms) that is decorated beautifully with folk art and tasteful murals. Ceiling fans, air conditioning, fountains and cool tile floors made even the summer temperatures palatable. We arrived, jumped in the small, cozy pool in the corner of the courtyard and were offered a glass of wine. The hospitality never diminished. This was more like a stay in some very generous friends' home than a paid stop. The staff is superlative, the breakfasts are bountiful. You have free internet and phone access to the states. Even the packs of coffee in the room are of the highest quality. An ATM that worked every time is a minute's walk away as is the sidewalk along the beach, the malecon, one of the longest in Mexico. The centro historico is undergoing ambitious restoration and you need never go to the high-rise, franchised world of the "golden zone," a five dollar cab or pulmonia (open air
motorized cart) ride away.
