We stayed at the Westin from October 12 to 14. We stayed before this for a week at the Playa del Sol Grand in Nuevo Valarta and liked that resort much better. Check in at the Westin was very friendly and the porter that guided us to our room did a great job. We had room 809 on the 8th floor with a very nice view of the Bay of Banderas, Puerto Vallarta and green mountains. We also had a nice view of the pretty pool and tall palm trees below. The room had a decent size and so did the bathroom. Nice dual shower heads and tile. The room was clean and the decor okay but we expected more from a Westin Hotel. The Heavenly bed was not so heavenly! The white comforter had 2 stains (yuck) and was torn at the seams. This comforter was never changed during our stay, even so I pushed it onto the floor. The bed skirt was dirty (shoe print or something like that), the sheets under the comforter were clean but not soft at all. I don't want to sound picky but when they call something a heavenly bed I expect soft sheets and a clean comforter! The mattress was comfortable but the pillows just okay. The sealings in each room are painted in a primary color in a sponge wash. I have seen pictures of the sealing done nicely. However, our blue sealing had the worst paint job we have ever seen. I can not even explain how bad it was and this is the thing you look at when you are laying in bed.It truly hurt to look at. Kind of hard to ignore. The concrete floor on my side of the bed looked very dirty and in need of a good scrubbing. The metal chairs on the nice patio with the pretty view had no chusions to sit on and therefore very unconfortable. The pools are pretty with lots of tall palm trees and they are doing a good job with the landscaping. Nikki Beach Club is very stylish and we had a nice afternoon laying on the big cushy beach beds having a good lunch and drinks but it was overpriced. We had 1 Sushi Roll, 1 Greek Salad, 1 Beer and 3 Mojito's US$79. Drinks at the pool (not Nikki Beach Club) are $10 US. For Mexico that is really high. The service was very friendly and attentive however. We did like the location at the Marina as you can walk there and it is nice. Several good restaurants with decent prices and even the Lighthouse Bar charged only $5.50 for a Margarita. We thought compared to other higher end hotels in the area, the Westin just did not compare. Newer hotels have much nicer bathrooms in the public areas. This is a good hotel for large groups, business travelers and families with small kids as they have a really nice kids pool and play area. The ocean was nice for a dip but as soon as you walk onto the beach or out of the water you get bombarded by people that want to sell you something. Not relaxing! We would not stay at this hotel again. Just not our thing. I am sure others really enjoy this hotel but for us it really was just okay.
