This is a GREAT hotel for the price. I've stayed here for several weeks each of the last 6 years. If you're looking for jello shots & wet t-shirt contests- this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a charming little hotel with wonderful staff, very clean rooms, great pool, excellent location, good restaurant, well maintained grounds, a secure, safe and thoroughly relaxing enviroment & all at an extremely affordable price-- this is it.
I think it's the ideal location. You can walk to numerous restaurants & shops within the marina. You're a $5 taxi ride or 50 cent bus ride from the main pier for all excursions. And a $7 taxi ride or a 50 cent bus ride from the Malecon, downtown beaches & nightlife.
We found the hotel's restaurant to be especially good this year. Great fresh fish, scrumptious chicken enchiladas & as usual- the best breakfast deal around: fresh squeezed orange juice, a full plate of seasonal fruits, eggs (any style), bacon, hash browns, refried beans, toast & coffee or tea for approx $6.25
The pool is great for lounging around with full service provided by the Palapa restaurant staff. If you lounge near the Palapa, you can enjoy the pleasant spanish pop music they're usually
playing. Or you can head to the nearby beach via the hotel shuttle.
The rooms are large, comfortable and impeccably clean-- you'll see the hardworking housekeepers cleaning this place daily, from sunup to sundown.
There's free wi-fi internet access in the lobby, the Palapa restaurant, poolside and in a nicely appointed computer room created for the guests' use. Mgmt. intends to upgrade system so Wi-fi will be accessible in guest rooms. Cable tv has CNN and a few good english stations. I didn't have 70 stations to choose from, but the few times I did want to veg in front of the tv, there were decent movies and/ or shows to watch.
The decor is a little shabby chic right now - just a little faded & worn. The furnishings were last all changed several years back. The hotel is planning to refresh the decor, as they seem to do every several years. Most of the rooms have a picture postcard view of the marina with its yachts, so you'll spend your time in your room looking out, anyway. All rooms have patios or balconies. The beds are comfortable & the towels are thick & fluffy.
The staff here aim to please. Not all of the staff are proficient in english, but every last one of them wants you to enjoy your stay with them & will go the extra mile, if needed, to insure that.
I would enthusiastically recommend this hotel to anyone. It's a real gem for the price. I don't know how it has stayed a well kept secret for this long.
