“A Great Find”

The Bed and Breakfast at the Learning Center is a great find. I have rented the apartment twice, and several of my friends have stayed in the guest rooms downstairs. The place is well located in the Historic Center, the guest rooms are immaculate, and the atmosphere is friendly and secure. The rooms are smallish but newly renovated, each has a private bath, and the price is more than reasonable. I would recommend The Learning Center to single women travelers particularly, as you have privacy, comfort and safety in a friendly atmosphere.
Gary Titus is a lovely and experienced host, and his cook, Andreas, makes wonderful breakfasts for the guests. Try his homemade granola and homemade yogurt with tropical fruit.
Staying here is just a little different from the usual, a window into Oaxaca you would not get in a hotel. The best part is your travel dollars go right into supporting a local non-profit organization.

“Socially Responsible B&B in Oaxaca”

Bed & Breakfast at the Oaxaca Learning Center

1 May 2008

Great little bed n breakfast in the historic center of Oaxaca City. Operated by American expat Gary Titus, this outfit only has two rooms and an apartment, but it's very interesting to stay in the middle of the Learning Center and all the students who come in to study in the daytime. Gary has the place set up so you can interface with the college students and the paid student tutors. Students get extra help in various subjects without paying any fees, and the room fees of the B&B go toward the facility's support. Rooms are smallish but each has a private bathroom. A continental breakfast is included. There's a washer and clothesline, and computers to use for email. Gary and the students, tutors and others are an interesting and intelligent crowd to interact with. There's always a good mix of English and Spanish conversation. The place is immaculately clean and it's a few block walk to the zocalo.
