“Perfect Honeymoon”

Sun Palace

This hotel exceeded all of our expectations!! My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and the worst part was having to leave. The room was beautiful with an incredible ocean view. The food was fantastic and if you get tired of it you can travel to any Palace Resort and sample their food, which we did. The staff was AMAZING. I was sad to say goodbye to many of them. And because it was an adults only resort it was very relaxing and we became friends with most of the people we met. I highly recommend the Sun Palace and we hope to return there as soon as possible.

We had the honeymoon of a lifetime!!!! We could write for days about the wonderful experiences that we had.

Arrival: We will welcomed at the hotel with chilled champagne and were happy that we only had to wait 15 minutes for our room even though we arrived much before check-in time.

Honeymoon Dinner: The dinner takes place outside of the Italian restaurant overlooking the beautiful ocean. It was so romantic!!! The women are greeted with roses and each table is covered in rose petals. The food was our least favorite of the trip (it is a preset menu) but the atmosphere and service were amazing. When we made it back up to our room we had two swans and a heart made out of towels covered in rose petals on our bed. AMAZING!

The room: The room is very spacious with a hot tub right next to the bed. The lights are a bit confusing but there are directions on the television of how to use them. There is a flat screen television and many channels in English. It is true that the water temperature in the shower changes but this is such a minor complaint in all the other wonderful aspects. There is a safe in the room where we kept our passports, rings and extra cash.

The pool: There are several smaller pools and a main activity pool. Our room overlooked the main pool. At first we werent sure about this because the activities can be loud but we had no problems with this whatsoever. The main pool has a swim-up bar and daily activities like volleyball and water polo. The games are fun to join in and non-competitive. A fun atmosphere!!!

The service: The best part of the trip had to be the service. My husband is fluent in Spanish and I am just learning (Spanish is not needed at the resort as we found everyone to be English speaking). We tried to use as much Spanish as possible especially because I am learning. The staff was more than happy to help me with my Spanish and very friendly in doing so. Our last meal was at El Alamo and the waiter spoke to me only in Spanish and helped me say what I needed to back to him. It was awesome! Housekeeping is unbelievable. They will service your room twice a day. Tip them and you will be greeted with different towel animals when you return. The bartenders are awesome as well. They will make sure you drink A LOT!

The food: We LOVED the food!!! The guacamole was the BEST we have ever had. We didn't get sick of it and ate it everyday we were there. Our favorite restaurant was El Alamo where you have to try the tortilla soup. The waiters never let you order only one thing; they make sure you get an appetizer, soup/salad, main entree and dessert. We also enjoyed the steak restaurant. Unlike several reviews on here we found this restaurant to be incredibly easy to find. It is right outside of the Mexican restaurant where the pools are. You will see them begin setting this up everyday at 5pm. There is a buffet to get salads, soups, sides and desserts. The steaks, ribs, chicken or shrimp are cooked to order. The cook is very friendly! We also ate at the Italian restaurant and enjoyed our meal very much (it could also have been the entire bottle of wine we drank between the two of us). Our waiter was incredibly friendly and made us a special dessert with espresso, chocolate syrup and coffee ice cream. This was by far our favorite dessert of the trip. He also made us a Mayan Cafe. We didnt care for the drink itself (tasted a lot like black licorice) but the show is definitely worth it. We did not eat at the Oriental Lounge because we are not sushi fans but we heard other guests speak highly of it. We did eat at the Hibachi at the Sun Palace. You must make reservations at the Sun palace the day you want to eat starting at 11am. It is important that you get there at 11am. It is definitely worth it!

Transportation: We took the bus everywhere (even to Walmart). This is definitely the thing to do. The bus comes all the time and will take you just about anywhere you need to go. It is $1 or if you pay in pesos even cheaper.

Other palaces: We checked out the three other palace resorts in Cancun (Beach, Cancun and Moon). We by far are SO happy that we chose the Sun Palace. It is the smallest of the three and adults only. ADULTS ONLY is the way to go. The pool experience is much better without children and so is the nightlife. The lobby bar at the Sun Palace was crowded each night with people drinking and dancing to the live music (no children around to worry about) where the other hotel bars hardly had anyone in them. After the Sun Palace our next favorite was the Beach which was just remodeled in December of 2007. The best feature of this place is the sky bars and hot tubs. They overlook the entire ocean and the city of Cancun. Absolutely beautiful at night. The Moon Palace is huge!!! It has 2 lobbies that you are bused between. We went for the day and were happy with this choice. We participated in the water aerobics and checked out the gift shops (much bigger selection than the Sun Palace especially with sizes). There is also a casino and a golf course. Our least favorite was the Cancun Palace. It was very crowded and full of children running around and splashing everywhere. The beach is also very small and full of rocks. We loved that we could eat and drink at any of the Palace resorts. It gave us a variety of options.

The beach: The beach at the Sun Palace is AWESOME!! There is plenty of room and always lounge chairs available. The water is so clear and warm. There is a lifeguard on duty to let you know when the water is unsafe to enter (as we experienced once during our stay). There were no vendors on our portion of the beach.

The tours: We took an excursion to Chichen Itza. We went because it is one of the seven wonders of the world. This is literally an all-day trip!!! It was very long and very hot but we are happy in the long run that we went. We also did the half day snorkeling to Paradise Cove. We went on the morning trip (which we recommend) because even with half day you do not return until 3pm. After the snorkeling you can choose to go jet skiing, horse back riding in the water, get a massage (prices much cheaper than at the hotel), ATVing, etc. They do not tell you this at the hotel but they budget time for you to do an activity. You find out on the bus ride there. The hotel also will bill the activity to the room so there is no need to worry about having enough cash on hand to pay for the activity of your choice.

Overall: The Palace Resorts are AMAZING!!! The Sun Palace is the perfect place for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway. The atmosphere is so relaxing and the service can't be beat. We loved our trip and looking forward to returning!!!!

I just got back from the best vacation I ever had. The Sun Palace played an enormous part in this experience. The service is excellent and curteous. The staff members will go out of their way to please you. The facilities are outstanding. There are four restaurants. One outside steak house, and itallian restaurant, oriental restaurant, and general one. The itallian and oriental restaurants were as good as any five star restaurant I have ever eaten in.
The entertainment is not on par with that you would expect on a cruise ship, but so what. It is very mexican in flavor so you get a feel for the country.
The pools are crystal clear. The pool area has a variety of activities including water polo, water volleyball, water aerobics, bingo, and spanish lessons. They also have one of the best beaches in Cancun. The beach area is very large and the sand is first rate. The water area has no rocks or obstacles.

The gym is adequate. One of the elipticals is out of service and there was problems with two of the treadmills. There is sufficient free weights and machines to adequately keep in shape during the vacation. There is no televisions in the exercise room.
The rooms are first class. The bathroom has a translucent glass door which takes some getting used to. The view of the ocean is spectacular. We were in room 819. At this level ass the terraces are in view of your neighbors so little privacy when you step out. The king size bed is a bit hard but you get used to it.
They have a deal for selling discounted future stays. It is a variety on the time share scheme. If you volunteer to go they take you on a three hour presentation at the Cancun Palace. When they complete the presentation they try to hard sell you. Of course I didn't buy in. But, I didn't care. They award you freebees just for attending. They give you $200 towards spa services and another $100 for, in my case, Expedia. We used the $100 credit for Parasailing.
The excursions are included. We did two. One two Chichen Itza and the other two Tulum. The sites are interesting but they force you to go shopping at a Mayan Cooperative. Also, the lunch provided at the Chichen Itza Mayan Cooperative was not very good.
Overall, I would say, that the Sun Palace is a great resort, small enough to feel important but large enough to have great facilities.

We stayed at the Sun Palace for the second half of our honeymoon. Coming from Le Blanc, this hotel severely suffered from comparison. If you are lookig for luxury and relaxation, look there first!

When we first arrived in our room, we had been upgraded to the junior suite, #531. While the room was large, it overlooked the loud activity pool and construction next door. I called downstairs and asked to see a room on the 6th floor, since I had read about the large balconies on TA. We accepted a "downgrade" to superior room #615 (which is just a bit smaller, but not much) after seeing the balcony. I HIGHLY recommend you do everything in your power to get one of the large balconies. Laying on the balcony bed reading a book or snuggling was the best part of the hotel. The rooms were above average, tastefully decorated, stocked with beverages and had modern bathrooms and large jacuzzis. The bed was quite hard, but that is our only complaint in this area.

The pools were nice-looking, but very crowded with SLOW beverage service and the activities were loud and obnoxious at the main pool. Every half hour, they start screaming over the micorphone. Our last day we spent by the ocean instead, and that was much better. The beach is nice, waves were pretty rough, but we swam anyways, nearly losing our bathing suits several times. :)

The food was just ok. Of course this part of the experience was ruined since my husband had a worm crawl across his plate one night in the main restaurant. They were very apologetic, but we left almost immediately. The chef sent up a cheese and cracker plate, a fruit plate and champagne in about 15 minutes and that helped a lot! The italian restaurant was pretty weak. Atmosphere was romantic, but everything tasted like it had been reheated. We loved the atmosphere of the asian restaurant, but the appetizers were so awful that we left and got dinner at the italian restaurant instead. (For reference, we ordered the tempura which was very greasy and terrible sushi that didn't taste fresh). The Steak was pretty good, with a large variety. The lobby bar was pretty cheesy, but at least it was busy and had a few games to play.

Overall, I would only recommend this hotel if you are young, don't usually travel and are not looking for luxury. I would not recommend for relaxation or people looking to be pampered.

“Honeymoon at The Sun Palace”

My husband and I just got back late last night from a wonderful Honeymoon stay at The Sun Palace. We had such a awesome, relaxing stay. It is adults only so it's a real calm, intimate setting. The food is delicious and the serive is unbeatable! My favorite restaurant was the Italian restaurant which is a scrumptious 6 course meal. Honeymooner's get a special Romantic dinner outside overlooking the ocean. All waiters are very experienced and professional. The staff was very respectful! It was nice to get to know the wait staff and managers because you got to joke around with them and receive better service. Tipping is greatly aprpeciated it and they will show you more one on one service if they know you are "tippers." Either way, tip or not, they are the best. You will definitely not be disappointed with your stay. The beach is beautiful and the waves are perfect. The lifegaurd will personally set lawn chairs and an umbrella wherever you wish! Room service is incredible and fast! You order and it takes maybe 15 minutes tops! My husband asked for a beer and they brought a 12 pack! You will fall in love with The Palace Resorts. I've stayed at the Beach and Cancun palace but will for sure return to the Sun Palace.
