This review is a little late, but i've been on this site quite a bit lately planning my honeymoon, so I figured I'd write a review. My Fiance & I stayed here last June.
First with the positives -
-the hotel itself was very pretty & boutique style. Everything seemed to be kept clean and everyone seemed very friendly
-the beach was amazing - the sand was gorgeous, plenty of palapas to go around, friendly atmosphere, and the water was sooo calm & perfect to swim in (even though my fiance really wanted some waves)!! I can close my eyes and still picture us there, it was really beautiful.
-the location is good, it is just a short walk (about 10 minutes) to the heart of the hotel zone where Coco Bongos is (didnt go) and Carlos & Charlies (a lot of fun!) Just one word of advice - if you dont want to get constantly harrassed by shop/vendors on the street, stay on the sidewalk that is on the side where the hotels are (the vendors are across the street). I know they are just trying to make their money but it can get really annoying after awhile...also, there was a really good Italian restaurant nearby right next to the Intercontinental (we ate there about 4 times) it's only about a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I can't remember the name of it though...
-all of the rooms seemed to have a pretty good sized balcony or patio
Now some negatives:
-The room - seemed kind of "grimy". I understand the mustiness because it the tropics, but there were other things. Like, we had these little bugs that were on the table, and in the dish area (which kept us from using the dishes). They were very tiny & did not seem to come on the beds, but its still kind of unnerving. And even though the sheets seemed clean, the bedspreads made the beds look dirty.. Also, there is no option to rent any particular view when booking a room, which I dont like because I'm not good at trying to "haggle" to get a room with a view (and they definately have some there)!
- The restaurant selection. I think there was only 1 restaurant for dinner, and to be honest I didnt like the food that much. It is right on the beach so it has a beautiful view, but unfortunately being right on the beach, the sand flies were getting all over the food too.
- There is NOTHING to do at the hotel at night, no entertainment, bars, etc... we either would go to the dowtown hotel zone area for entertainment, or just go to bed. We commented several times how we wished there was something going on at the hotel at night.
Overall, it is a great deal for the money. If I could be sure that I could get a less "buggy" room, and get a room w/ somewhat of a view if I wanted, I would not hesitate to return because the beach & the location cant be beat! (and if you are a wave person - you can always spend a couple nights at one of the other hotels on the long side of the seven - those waves are huge!) Hope this helps!
