First, I booked through cheapcaribbean dot com because its the cheapest way to go anywhere in the caribbean.

Second, I went here when I was 18 with three of my other friends for ten days. 18,18, 20, 22 years old at the time. I am now 20, and I feel like I have to write a review because of the poor ratings I am seeing on this hotel. Let me just say that we all loved this place. If you are a couple or married, trust me you will even enjoy it more. It is not a typical rowdy cancun party resort so dont worry about that. I've been to a bunch of places and I know what luxery is, and this place is luxery. We got to the hotel an hour before the room was ready for us, so they immedialty brought us outside and sat us down at a restaraunt and offered us numerous drinks and a full lunch. Staff was great!!!!!

I've been to numerous places in the caribbean, and this is my favorite place to date. It is VERY clean, rooms are awesome, pool is awesome, and the beach is nice. I chose this hotel because of the size of the pool in the pictures. It payed off. The bar at night was awesome, great name brand liquors and beer (absolute, jack daniels, bud light, malibu rum, modello etc) There are plenty of things to do, and I recommend spending a few extra dollars and doing them. Out of the 10 days there we went snorkling ($60-80), to 2 malls, down town a bunch of times, and to 2 clubs. The clubs are fantastic, $40 and you drink all night for free and when you buy tickets through you hotel, you skip the line and get a VIP table at most places. Most places are aimed at the younger crowd. Each night a certain club is the "new hot spot" to go to, so it doesn't matter which night you decide to go out and party. The 24/7 room service is also another hit, granted, I think we took advantage ordering a total of 64 times in the 10 days we stayed. The food is great, healthy, and fresh. I am a bodybuilder and eat very clean, I enjoyed the food. The restaraunts were amazing. Everything super fresh, servers at your table every time you half done with your drink. I already mentioned the lobby bar, but that is one of the biggest highlights of the trip. They have a live band singing great music, and the bartenders there are fantatic. We would walk in at 9pm every night after dinner, and they would have a area set up for us with the drinks we ordered the night before, including a shot glass, and a martini glass filled with pistachios for each of us. I'd be offered another drink as soon as the bartender thought it was halfway gone. once again, awesome service. They would clean this place all day long, ceilings and all. You can walk around barefoot and feel clean everywhere! I am a very neat, clean, organized person and I loved this about this hotel.

I've never been back to a resort more than once because none of them impressed me too much. But not this place, next year I am heading back down, same hotel, with a group of 10 friends. This place is fantastic, I cant say enough about it. Go, you will not regret it.

Oh, by the way, get a room facing the "bay", these rooms are the best because you get a sunset everynight from your balcony. ENJOY!

We stayed at the Grand Oasis Cancun 7/6-7/13. We were expecting to stay in the pyramid which we thought was the Grand. They put us in the other building stating it was also the Grand (there was nothing Grand about it) because it had an ocean view. The room was old looking, the TV remote did not work (we were told 3 times we would get a working one and never did, we're on vac I don't expect to get up every time to change the channel)the TV is tiny (maybe 19inch), the AC unit leaked every day, there was a wet spot on the floor( I slipped on it a few times), and the hallways smelled like urine for 2 days (poor plumming, I saw maintanence crews almost daily) I heard many complaints from other guest while lounging by the pool. This was our 8th resort we have stayed at and I have to say the buffet restuarants were the worst I have ever been to. The other restuarants were fine, but the wait time and service time was horrible. We waited 1hr to be seated for lunch at the Thai restuarant and after 30 min after ordering our sushi, it still was not even ready to be prepared. When we arrived at the Cancun airport we noticed that both our daughter's Ipods were missing, I did confirmed that we had them when we entered our hotel room and they never tooked them out of the room because they didn't want the sand to damage them(the irony). We did report it but ofcourse nothing will be done. The beach is beautiful, but very strong that you can't really swim in it. Also very rocky so if you do go take water shoes. I would rather stay home then vacation at this resort. I also would not recommend Xel Ha, it's very expensive for a family of 4 and there is not much to do, and there is algee all over. We have been to Excaret twice and even though the water is just as ugly atleast their is other things to do. Not worth the expense.

“A Great Vacation in a Good Resort”

We visited the Grand Oasis Cancun from July 10th-15th. Before we left I was constantly checking Tripadvisor to look at the new reviews that were posted. My girlfriend and I were both a bit concerned about the negative reviews of the resort. I will break it down for you and tell you both the good and the bad. I will try to cover everything you may need to get a vision of the resort.
My girlfriend and I are both 35 years old and just like anyone going on vacation, like to have a good time. I am not a picky person and realize that when I am going to Mexico that there may be some things that are different than living in the states. We got to the hotel at 12 p.m. and were greeted and treated great from the time we got out of the shuttle. We were upgraded to an Ocean front room in the main pyramid (room 5617) and given our black wristbands. The black bands allow you to use all the restaurants and bars. Our room was good size, clean, had a great view, and most importantly the air worked great. Cancun in July is insanley hot with the high humdity. The room had a fridge stocked with water, soda, and beer (Modelo). We paid the $2 a day for the use of the safe. I would recommend this to put your valuables in. Our room was cleaned promptly everyday and the maid did a great job. I would leave her $3 a day, just for the great job she did. All the staff at the resort works hard and deserve tips. I know that you don't have to tip, but we did and it seemed so appreciated. I would say I spent about $70 in tips and it was worth it for the service we had.
The grounds of the resort are beautiful and well maintained. The pool is incredible, but in need of some work. The water was too warm for me and wasn't refreshing when you got in. There are 3 pool bars but they are always packed. One of the pool bars is crowded with a young crowd who like to party, but if you are not into that, you can find another area. My girlfriend and I took a trip to Walmart and bought a small ice chest to bring with us to the pool. We also brought our own cups, as the ones they give you to drink out of are small. This worked out well. If you want to travel around the area the bus is a great way to travel it costs about 70 cents and gets you to were you need to go. You can catch the bus at the main street in front of the hotel. To get to the clubs takes about 10 minutes in the bus. The buses seem to come every 2-3 minutes. I was a bit disappointed with the beach. It was rocky and hard to enjoy. I came out of the water with a few scrapes on my legs. The hurricane a couple of years ago did some serious damage. I think the resort could do some work to remove some of the rocks in the area to make it more safer to swim. The water in the ocean is very warm.
The food at the resort was good. We ate at a couple of buffets, but enjoyed the restaurants better. The Asian restaurants and Dos Lunas were both very good. If you want to avoid lines, go to dinner early as the restaurants tend to get crowded the later you go. We also had room service a couple of times. The food was OK and it took a long time for them to deliver the food. There is a couple of hamburger/hot dog stands around the pool to eat lunch at. The wait staff in the restaurants do a very good job and met our every need.
Overall, we had a great time in Cancun and at the Grand Oasis. I probably wouldn't go back just because I like to try different places, but I would recommend it to other people. Like I said, there are a few things that could be improved, but it is nothing that detered from my vacation. If you want to know anything else about the resort or cancun, please email me and I will try to answer your questions.

ok here it is.....my review of the grand oasis cancun.GREAT!!as you can see im writing this review months after my stay.keep in mind that when people have a bad trip they are more compelled to come online and complain.that might explain why there is so many bad reviews.the location was great.the room was awesome and always clean.plenty of hot water.the food was really good.especially the buffet you need the black bracelet for.the buffut for the oasis guests (purple bracelet) doesnt even come close.so many choices of restaurants and i didnt have a bad experience in any.only complaint was that the mexican gormet was always booked and i didnt have a chance to try it.boo hoo.lol...the beach was good but rocky.you might even be intimidated to get into the water but just 10 feet past the rocks its pure sand.water is a little rough.but i love the waves.as for the rocks this is due to a hurricane that washed away much of the sand.not hotels fault.all of the hotels in cancun bassically have the same beach.the property was beautiful and always well maintained.the pool was always clean and HUGE.bars and drinks were good.drinks did the job.(ask for bacardi)not gonna say the drinks were great but anyone who complains about them is just plain dumb.i went with my girlfiend, im 25 her 28.my parents were also on this trip with us and we all had a great time.i definately recomend this hotel.

“Good hotel, but not for everyone”

Grand Oasis Cancun

16 Jul 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

July 8-15, 2008, travelling with 3 kids (14,13,10)

HOTEL GROUNDS 5/5 well maintained, clean

POOL 3/5 very nice size, but not cleaned properly

OCEAN-FRONT ROOMS 2/5 old, plain but comfortable enough; had a couple of damaged lights that were fixed after a couple of calls (although there was continuous dripping from around one fixture -electrocution waiting to happen); kids' room had no water one day - called down and within 1 hour was running again. We were literally 80 feet from the shore; great view

FOOD 4/5 good quality, lots of variety (salads, fruits, juices)

SERVICE-BARTENDERS 4/5 unfortunately, lumped you in with the drunk crowd(at times, enforcing 2 drink limit for non-alcoholic drinks)

SERVICE-RESTAURANTS 4/5 remove dirty plates, etc in a timely fashion; overall, drinks brought in a timely manner.

SERVICE-FRONT DESK 1/5 confusion with room availability(took 30 minutes to check-in); no one could provide you with change for dollars(had to be exchanged for pesos at 9.80 rate); paid bill night before only to find out at check-out that they had posted the payment to the wrong room(took 25 minutes to check-out)

OTHER GUESTS 1/5 lots of loud, abnoxious kids (18-25) who thought that Mexico means unlimited drunkeness. The entertainment staff encouraged it to a point by having 'shake your bootie' contests, etc. During one of these, the crowd got so carried away, that the staff simply walked away (not that anyone noticed because the 'dancers' kept shaking their stuff, to the delight of the mostly male crowd yelling at them to remove their tops (although when a couple did, security moved in quickly)

GOOD
- decent price for internet - $15 for 24 hours usage (which can be spread out over the week)
- bus ride 6.50 pesos/person is within 10 minutes of shopping, clubs, resturants (buses constantly go by; just flag it down like a taxi)
- we used USA Travel for airport transfers - just like they said, on-time, quick, efficient and professional at a reasonable cost ($65 return)

BAD
- Management quietly endorses having the young crowd(makes financial sense) to the detriment of the rest - Grand Oasis doesn't allow kids under 25, however the Oasis (which shares the same buildings) does and forces 18-24 year-olds to pay $25US in advance for "damage costs"
- Morning is calm (the drunks are still sleeping); around noon the swim-up bars start crowding; by 2pm you're fighting a crowd of people to get up to the swim-up bars
- nickel & dimed you by charging $2/night for usage of safe
- ATM in lobby that dispenses US$, uses a rate of exchange that increases the cost 20%!!!!
- mini-bar fridges barely worked and kept free water and pop just below room-tempterature
- drinks are put in 12oz cups; make sure you bring a larger cup with a lid that will keep the drinks cold

On a lighter note, we had a good laugh during one of the 'shake your stuff' contests. A female was really teasing the guys until her parents showed up and saw what was happening. It was at that point that we realized she only had a white bracelet (given to those under 18) and was only about 16 or 17. Right in front of everyone, her parents put her in her place. She walked away totally embarrased and with her head bowed down. After that, when we saw her, her parents were attached to her hip.

This is not a place to go if you have kids, are 'mature' or are celebrating a very special occasion. If you are into loud partying (or at least don't mind it going on around you) it's good for you.

Hope it all helps.
